Virginia Governor Debate

Washington Post:

At age 34, two years before his first election and two decades before he would run for governor of Virginia, Robert F. McDonnell submitted a master's thesis to the evangelical school he was attending in Virginia Beach in which he described working women and feminists as "detrimental" to the family. He said government policy should favor married couples over "cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators." He described as "illogical" a 1972 Supreme Court decision legalizing the use of contraception by unmarried couples.

The 93-page document, which is publicly available at the Regent University library, culminates with a 15-point action plan that McDonnell said the Republican Party should follow to protect American families -- a vision that he started to put into action soon after he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates.

Re: SarahPAC and her problems with the FEC:
“A Palin spokeswoman told POLITICO on Monday that McCain and Murkowski had refunded $200 each to the PAC, reducing its contributions to them to $4,800 each, and that the PAC had given $1,000 each to Bachmann, Blackburn, Graham, Hatch and Portman, as well as $2,500 to McDonnell.”

Well, that is disturbing to me, apparently Sarah Palin favors McDonnell over the other wingnut, Bachmann.. Like minds? That’s a scary thought!

I found a terrific site that is a goldmine of information about these neopentacostal extremists:

I can hardly wait for her Leah Burton’s new book: “God’s Own Party? Keep Your Bible OFF My Ballot!”

"It is also becoming clear in modern culture that the voting American mainstream is not willing to accept a true pro-family ideologue...Leadership, however, does not require giving voters what they want ... "

from page 61 of McDonnell's thesis

Could it be as governor he would FORCE the Roman Catholic version of pro-family doctrine on all Virginians?

Here is a quote from Pat Robertson, the founder of the college where McDonnell wrote his thesis.
"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians."

It appears Mr. McDonnell was an avid listener to his mentor, Pat Robertson. It is important to remember McDonnell was 34 years old, not 18.

Why is it that evangelical extremists are so obsessed with the subject of fornication, particularly in others? Like in advertising, sex sells. I guess that is how they keep their congregations interested.

McDonnell wants to make Virginia the re-newable energy center of the East Coast by bringing back firewood. Tax cuts, vouchers and coupons will be used to encourage the use of wood from Virginia's forests for home heating and cooking. Wait for details to be posted on his website.

I think libs should let Republicans come out with their true motives for
America, so people can begin to see the truth:They only care about themselves
and anyone they consider as non-threat and they will use anything:
religion, money, media or violence to make sure that the world fit their ideal.

But maybe I am a bit naive to believe people really want to see the truth...

This is toward the point I made last night regarding the brainwashing that has occurred across middle America and the south. The airwaves, the pulpit, from the cradle to the grave folks are fed a xenophobic, racist, anti-intellectual mindset that has played into the hands of the Republicans and was perfected by Atwater and his accolytes, Grover Norquist, Jack Abramoff, Reed, and all of the religio-politico demagogues.

These folks have dumbed down the country to the point that the perpetrators are never called on their lies. I watched Grover on with Carlos Watson this morning spouting lie after lie about the President and was not interrupted once by Carlos. At the end of the segment Watson attempted to call him out asking what his solution would be eliciting an ignorant shut down congress for two months response. I just can't see how people keep falling for the same old cr@p.

Maybe the GOP should be the RPN: Religio-Politico-Nutcases.

How do they get so many preachers to join in the game? After all, in theory, those people aren't supposed to be political, quite the opposite. Where's the IRS?
I grew up going to what would probably be now considered a "socially conservative" church, but politics was never, ever discussed, it was taboo.
But that was before mega churches, with their prosperity doctrine and uneducated preachers (at least not seminary educated.) Their Sunday morning auditorium rock shows about "us v. them" have got to be more fun than a cold hard pew and an hour long sermon about salvation, hard work, and being a decent person.
