DeMint Encourages Health Care Fears At Town Halls

Senator Jim DeMint, the South Carolina Republican who predicted that President Obama's effort to overhaul the health care system would become his "Waterloo," is doing his best to make that happen.

Taking questions from a friendly crowd of 500 people here the other day, Mr. DeMint did little to correct their misimpressions about health care legislation but rather reinforced their worst fears.

Demint.....part of 'the Family' on C street along with his fellow brethren, Gov. Sanford....forgiving each others sins because, after all, they were "chosen" to one of the wealthy few to lead their perception of a country. Read "The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power" by Jeff Sharlet to see just how c.ra.zy these people are.

Senator DeMint should have to say what his health insurance is, who pays for it, what happens to his coverage if he becomes disabled and cannot work.

His coverage is fine (the best in the country), he is in no danger of losing it. Most of the people in the crowd don't have such good coverage and are in great danger of losing it (also of not being able to pay for it).

Wake up America, Senator DeMint is not on your side. He doesn't care about you - he cares about the Republicans 'winning' - he said so himself. The Republicans might consider it a win if health care isn't passed but we will all lose!

Some of us are. Disagree with the politician if you like. But to be so rude and condescending to some very fine citizens is disgusting.

I'll vouch for that dog. I've collaborated, still am, with dedicated obesity and cancer researchers and public health officials in Columbia and Charleston for a number of years. Most people I've met are neighborly if not downright friendly. More so than in other parts of the country for sure. I'll use any excuse to visit... except that Hilton Head area, its got a weird vibe to it.

GRUDGING RESPECT FOR HEALTH CARE PROFITEERS

In a way you have to be impressed by what Big Pharma and For-Profit Insurance has achieved.

They've managed to poison our politicians and the broader media. They've managed to entangle themselves everywhere.

They even gouge us with their side businesses...

For instance, you pay extra on your home owner's insurance in case somebody gets hurt on your property. Why? Because we don't have universal health care. Somebody has to go after you for their health care.

The same industry sells us both insurance policies! They have us coming and going.

What about Uninsured Motorist coverage. We wouldn't need it with universal health care.... Oh by-the-way, an insurance company sold you that coverage too!

They've dipped into our pockets three times all for the same FEAR! It's BRILLIANT!

I'm sure there are others examples of the insurance industry I haven't thought of.

How about STD and LTD insurance?

It boggles the mind.

Senator DeMint has forgotten, or is ignoring, what our founding fathers were all about. The Preamble to the U. S. Constitution express the guiding principles and fundamental purposes the U. S. Constitution was meant to serve. Contained within the Preamble is "PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE." (Emphasis mine). What better way to promote the general welfare than to have a health care system that delivers health care to all citizens, including a public option? (Republicans, please note, nothing is said about promoting the general welfare of corporations.)

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

p.s. Apparently DeMint has forgotten or is also choosing to ignore the part about domestic tranquility.

Right. The "We the people" bunch are the ones that got freedom of speech, and those other rights. Never said a thing about synthetic entities that exist only by paper. No free speech for them until they can be held accountable for their crimes.

Senator DeMint has the I.Q. of a bag of hammers, the reasoning power of a turnip, and the morals of a cucumber. If a people get the government they deserve, then DeMint's election is a sorry reflection on the state of South Carolina.

What's with these S.C. politicians? Sanford has an exaggerated sense of value, that he's just too essential to the state to resign or be impeached. Now DeMint thinks he's too "smart" to be president. Must be something in the water. That smug look on DeMint's face needs to be wiped off, S.C. voters. Show him the exit door at the next election.
