The Guardian:

The justice secretary, Jack Straw, today denied fresh allegations that he gave the Scottish government the green light to release Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing, in the "overwhelming interests" of wider trade and oil negotiations with the Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi.

Despicable, vile, detestable! Take your pick.We worked wth the British to save their butts back in World War II. We crossed the Rhine together even though Patton could have done it sooner.I guess it's true that no good deed goes unpunished. With the Lockerbie sellout deal, the British have not lived up to their historical standards of integrity. This was a stab in the back to all Americans by a trusted ally. We would have expected far better treatment from a friend!

The American victims families got $10 million each.
The Iran Air victims families got $150,000-300,000 each for being shot down by USS Vincennes.

Where's the outrage about that?

The evidence produced in court that found Megrahi guilty was fabricated by the US ClA. This case is all a Iie, and the people that fabricated the evidence should be put in prison.

Why should this killer have been released at all? He went home to a 'hero's' reception. That is totally sick and disgusting. Why should we have any faith in justice after something like this?

He was released because it is the law in Scotland that any prisoner with a terminal disease and an estimated 3 months or less to live must be released to die with his or her family. It is called compassion. Whether you agree with that law is a different matter, but given that law the Judge did not have much choice.

I do not agree with the hero's welcome that he was given in Libya, but that is an issue for Libyans. He is no hero.

The discourse on this matter has beenPainful, for one reason especially: many people, including several of the surviving relatives of those who wereKilled in theBombing, believe that Abdel Baset alMegrahi is innocent:

"AlMegrahi was tried along with fellow LibyanIntelligenceOfficer AlAminKhalifaFhimah. With distraught relatives ofVictims filling the courtroom, the Scottish judges understand ablyFeared the reaction to two notGuilty verdicts. Instead, the judges acquitted Fhimah and found alMegrahi guilty.

The only important piece of evidence that differentiated alMegrahi from Fhimah was the dubious identification of alMegrahi by a storekeeper inMalta who fingered the Libyan as the buyer of clothing found in theBombSuitcase.

But thisStorekeeper had earlier identified several other people, including one who was aCIA agent. When he finally identified alMegrahi from a photo, it was after alMegrahi's photo had been in the world news for years.

There also were major discrepancies between the shopkeeper's original description of the clothes-buyer and alMegrahi's actual appearance. The shopkeeper toldPolice that the customer was "six feet or more in height" and "was about 50 years of age." Al-Megrahi was 5'8" tall and was 36 in 1988."

--------

Please, don't take my word for it.

And don't assume that hisConviction proves that he has definitelyGuilty.

Please read up on the case before jumping toConclusions.

It's my theses that the media programs people to Jump To Conclusions.
Or ignore words with more than two syllables.
