Gee-Letterman against Grassley-that will make Iowans support Grassley more. You Libs go after him-and moderates will like him more! Good thing you just don't get it-keep digging the hole deeper!

Is Grassley really the best target for the campaign. What ads are being launched to build support w/i the communities of Senators that might actually change their position in support of reform?

This amazes me.

You do not understand how politics work in America, much less in Iowa. Grassley is drunk with power now. Nothing he would like better than "outside money" attacking his policies and/or overlords (international agribusiness). No. The only way to undercut Grassley in Iowa is to make him look ridiculous. That is the one thing Iowans can not stand. They do not want to be seen as absurd in the eyes of the rest of America. They are proud and tucked in people.

We are talking photo shop here. Spend the afternoon photo shopping some absurd thing about Grassley. As a matter of fact, the more absurd, the better. The right-wing does it to Obama all the time. I am thinking Grassley and a horse. "When was the last time you saw that horse, Sen. Grassley?"

You are probably right. Embarass the people of Iowa. Make Grassley the butt of every joke on every late night show on the air. He should be the new Larry Craig. I think that a good start would be with the nickname "Greasy Grandpa Grassley."
03:55 PM on 09/01/2009
Actually, Letterman's been using Grassley as the 'butt' of his jokes in the last couple of days. Check out CBS's website on Late Night with David Letterman and his recent monologues.

Well they made a Joker caricature out of Obama. I think maybe the Riddler should be the Ghastley caricacuture.

While there are many people who believe that $60,000 isn't a lot of money to be raised when compared with the corporate donations that are fighting health care reform, it's not really the amount that we should be focusing on. The donations that are coming in are from the voters -- the ones who will be deciding who will be representing them in the next election.

I know that the insurance companies are spending a lot more in order to squash reform, representatives had better take notice of the small contributors who are supporting the public option, and they need to realize that if it doesn't go through, the democrats stand to lose quite a few seats. And if it does go through, the republicans stand to lose quite a few seats. It's not about what's good for the people -- it's about how to get re-elected.

It should appear to democrats that if they want to be re-elected, they need to vote on the side of the people. Plain and simple!

Well put!

If you consider that each contribution may be only $10 or $20, and some represent two or more voters -- that's a fair chunk of electorate.

Lefty groups, my aspidistra.

The public option is a powerful motivator for 50 MILLION AMERICANS.

And for millions more who realize that their coverage is dependent on the whim of the in$urance indu$try.

WHY IS AMERICA THE ONLY INDUSTRIALIZED NATION THAT REFUSES TO CARE FOR ITS TAXPAYERS... ?

This is why the Dems don't want to p.o. the Progressives. We hold HUGE purse strings.

Obama and others will miss our money in the next election.

So does that mean you aren't going to vote or are you going to vote repub. If you vote against Obama you are voting to add to our problems. You do not have to agree with everything he does but you do need to think about how things will be if the repubs get in control again. Biting off your nose to spite your face is never a good idea.

I'm saying Obama and the Dems will lose alot of Progressive votes. Progressives will likely find some Progressive candidate to support (who will likely lose, I grant you). And those that will vote for Obama will likely withhold their money from him.

Please don't make this about me. Continually voting for Democrats who are in the back pockets of corporations will never change this broken system. The old guard Dems have to know there are repercussions. It's not the Progressives in Congress who aren't backing up their President. It's the Blue Dogs and others who are letting their corporate interests influence them. In some cases, it's a generational thing, and it's just flat out time for some Dems to retire.

As for Obama, he's promised ALOT and so far has delivered little. I will have to assess it when the time comes. If he loses, please don't blame people like me. The blame is SQUARELY on the Dems and it's time they learn that.

My main point is that Progressives gave alot of money in the last election.

Chuck Grassley does not speak for me, nor the millions without health care. He supports the GOP and eager to please his party, forgoing any decency for doing RIGHT THING. He's showcasting himself to the media and guess what? Your 15 minutes are up!

I'd say this is a waste of money. Grassley has made his position clear. He is way too well known to swiftboat him.

Puma Ann...Please stop thinking that the folks at these SO-CALLED town hall meetings are the ONLY folk that are going to vote! Their not! Believe me when 2010/2012 comes you like those that represent you will find that they too have been punked by their own game!

The ads won't be "swiftboating " him, they will be telling the truth!
