I Like ItI Don’t Like It

All Steve Valdez wanted to do was cash a check from his wife during his work break. Bank of America insisted that Mr. Valdez provide a thumbprint to verify his identity, which he was unable to do because he was born with no arms. Despite the bank teller acknowledging this, and Mr. Valdez providing two forms of photo identification, the bank still refused to cash his check.

The bank eventually called Mr. Valdez to apologize.

We should be make the Wall Street bankers give us 2 forms of id , a thumb print, and a DNA sample for all the TARP money they have received.

well, the younger ones *will* have their palm scans forfeited (better than fingerprints.... not quite DNA) as a requirement for their MBA program admissions.

Ended my relationship with BofA years ago because of sorry business. I bank at a local-only bank and am treated like a queen. Ended my relationship with United Health Care insurance, too.

I can give you an even better one, because the boss screwed up one time (old job, several years ago), he had to pay me in a cashier's check. Yep, off BofA, and i needed to cash it (the foul up with my paycheck had over drafted my account, and i couldn't afford to pay bills and their fees), so i went to cash it at a local BofA. Yep, you guessed it, $4 fee to cash a cashier's check and a thumbprint. For obvious reasons i won't have anything to do with that bank again, ever. The only other bank i have so much hatred for is WaMu, but that's a story for another day.

BoA is a den of snakes. Evil walks on earth and is in the banking industry.

Just one more reason I would never ever, in any lifetime, deal with BofA, at any level.

Mr. Valdez, you could do better. Find a local credit union or bank and open accounts. They will want your business and they will want to get to know you.

I go into my bank and they know me so well they don't even ask for ID.

I closed my account with BOA in 1975 because they lost my payroll check, then bounced all my outstanding checks. I had to cash in bonds to cover. BOA refused to refund their fees for the bounced checks. Took no responsibility or cared about my situation.

I took my reissued check to a county bank and never looked back.

Worse than pirates!
On September 4th, 2009 vintagehotdog says:

If your going to bank with the worst of the worst you should expect these kind of things. I've heard horror stories since 1974 concerning this bank.
And don't even get me started on the bailouts!!!!!!!!!
I made the mistake of taking out a loan from them years ago after their huge, $500 guarantee, we are the easiest, advertising campaign. Far and away the hardest loan I ever did. And No, I never got my $500!

OK I don't get it. Unfortunately I am with B of A, long term. Never been asked for a thumb print. What are they the DMV do have this stuff on record? What if he was able to provide it, why would he? How much was the check for 10 million?

All they were going to do was hold the check to verify the funds if they had taken it, released the funds or not released them. What was the thumb print needed for?

Short version, IF you do not have an account with BofA(or any other bank), they will (1) charge you a fee for cashing the check (2) require a thumb print - for the purposes of tracking you down if the check is bad..............not rocket science

I don't understand....if the check say "pay to the order of" why don't they pay to the order of?
They are in effect discounting every check presented for payment.
If the check is good,,their only issue should be :are you who you say you are?

I've already opened on my major account with the new USAA bank. I will be closing all of my accounts with BofA as quickly as I can. I am also asking that my children to the same. My new company will be with USAA and not with BofA. I find them to be disgusting business people.

My dad had his business account with BofA way back in the late fifties and early sixties when they were still the real BofA, headquartered in San Francisco instead of some fine town in the proud ole' South. Their attitude was a heck of a lot better then (bankers, not speculators and snake-oil salesmen.) No computers, so a lot of mistakes. But they gladly fixed any problems quickly, with a smile. Try that now with employees kept part time so the multi-millionaire bosses at BofA don't have to bother with niceties like benefits for their workers.
