I Like ItI Don’t Like It

On Tuesday, a tasteless ad that depicted September 11th happening with hundreds of planes instead of two found its way on to the Internet. The ad was thought to have been created by DDB Brasil on behalf of the World Wildlife Fund. While New Yorkers and Americans alike were appalled by the cheap reference to that disastrous day, WWF itself denounced the ad, saying that it was unapproved" and on spec.

Today a video version of the ad was released and it's even worse than the original.

To look back and allow anger and shame into our hearts and minds would be the same as giving these people power over us.

To live our lives fully and be the best of ourselves we possibly can be is the only true way to mourn the loss. Don't be afraid to look back... But also don't make looking back more important than looking forward. In doing so you miss entirely what's important. Human connection, the bond and relationships we make and foster, these are the things that carry us through. Not whether or not a commercial is tasteful or not. The commercial is as it is, it doesn't evoke any kind pain when watching it.. It simply makes a statement the planet is a very important part of all of our lives (we couldn't exist without it) and if we continue to neglect it we are liable to run into far more disasters like the one we saw in 2004/2005 tsumnai... And when they come next time we will have no say over who or what or where, we will just have to deal. It's pretty powerful if you ask me...

I see the point of the ad and I didn't find it to be that offensive, but I think it failed to draw a connection between man and the tsunami, even though science has evidence that supports that connection.

You didn't find it to be that offensive? Are you kidding me? Those cowards slaughtered thousands of innocent Americans and now an ad agency runs a commerical that plays on this catastrophe. Did 9/11 even offend you?

That's such a shame for WWF to have to take such a PR hit for something they didn't want or approve.

DDB should be ashamed - and they should do all necessary PR repair work for free.

Awesome, let's make one comparing the holocaust to the an earthquake, and another with WWII Japanese internment and Katrina. Might as well offend everyone.

Spanish conquest to global warming
American slavery to the ice age

Insensitive and objectionable ad. Acts of nature are not the same as acts of terrorists. cheryl mikela

Why do we as Americans act like we are above everyone? As if we never committed any acts of mass violence. Hiroshima, Nagasaki anyone?

Plus, what the commercial shows are facts. If we do not "respect" nature, it will retaliate.

The commercial made its point, get over it people.

Very good point made by the add. Yeah, of course it's going to offend...but maybe it should...it def. puts things into perspective.

They sure made New York look nice. Like a modern city or something. Not all shabby and rundown like it really is.

The ad's OK. Big deal.

actually, i think it makes its point well... we have a off-kilter view of what / whose tragedies matter most.

Also the "timing" of this leaked ad couldn't be worse

Oh yeah it could. Try airing it in seven days.

It's a very powerful ad and it begs the question:
9.11.2001 will always be remembered because no one will be allowed to forget.
How many know the date of the Tsunami that took 250,000 lives?
..........give up?
26.12.2005
My point is, are those lives worth so much less because we don't care to remember them on the anniversary?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:11 AM on 09/04/2009

I understand your point..... but the fatal tsunami happened

26.12.2004

Kinda silly lecturing others while you yourself don't get it right ;-)

That's comparing apple and pears.
Are the lives of those dying in WW1 or WW2 worth less because we don't remember the exact dates of their deaths?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:56 AM on 09/04/2009

You can bet that people in Indonesia remember the anniversary. If your point is that we are Americentric...true. I believe that all countries are ethnocentric, but we happen to take that to the extreme.

You can always rebuild towers. Rebuilding the planet is probably impossible.
