I Like ItI Don’t Like It
David Letterman

After watching Chris Wallace interview Dick Cheney this week on Fox News, Andrew Sullivan said it was like "a teenage girl interviewing the Jonas Brothers." He, and other critics, were disturbed by the "soft" nature of the questions and thought more should be asked of a man who has been so vocal in defending torture and criticizing the current administration.

Enter David Letterman. Dave has never been one to pass up a good Cheney joke, nor a chance to poke fun at the media, and when he has an opportunity to do both at once you better believe he'll take it. Fresh on the heels of a Cheney Top Ten list, Letterman had his people produce a segment imagining how Cheney and Wallace actually felt during the interview. It's pretty disturbing, not because of any homoerotic undertones, but because the idea of Cheney in love is a tad terrifying.

Where else are these people going to go but Fox News? I mean, the evil Katie Couric and the intimidating Charlie Gipson tore apart their heroine, Sarah Palin, with only mild questions.
Could you imagine Lawrence O'Donnell or Keith Olbermann of Rachel Maddow interviewing these people?

The ne0-naz1s complain that no one asks President Obama the "hard" questions. Our President is so intelligent that he answers every question with ease because he knows what he's talking about. These same ditt0-heads complain that he gives a 10 minute answer to every question.
Neither 30-second sound bite, nor a 15 minute explanation would suffice to make these types understand the truth inside any real issue. The are more comfortable clinging to teabagging, birthers, deathers and Beck's alien fantasies.
It's much simpler and they won't go insane in the membrane.

That's because Bush was asked simple questions he still couldn't answer without flubbering it up. (YouTube: Funny Bush speeches) There was nothing intelligent about that Texas dude...
I, like the Dixie Chicks, am ashamed of our Texas politicians. W's bumper sticker read something like: "If you thought I was crazy, get a load of the guy who's replacing me" when he left Texas.
Well, at least he created Bushizm, the new language for red necks. Those of you who want secession, (LOL :D) find an island!!!!

Kudos, Dave! Keep taking your hits at the corrupt, incompetent people who call themselves "Republicans". The only network people like Cheney and Palin can go on and be stroked, is the infamous "Faux News" network.

I am not sure Cheney can withstand tough questions. I know he appears macho but that is because he only faces soft ball questions from people like Chris Wallace. By the way even the late Tim Russet, never really posed tough questions to Cheney. I would like to see Cheney interviewed by either Jon Stewart or Rachel Maddow. I bet you they would expose his cowardly dark underside.

MSNBC, ABC, CNN run 24 hour Obama commercials. The only network to challenge anything the White house says is FOX.
Wven Saturday Night Live had the networks offering Obama a pillow if that would make him nore comfortable.

Quick. Name TV personalities who give you the feeling they say only what they believe and nothing they don't. Letterman is on my list. Probably Bill Maher, as well. It's sad to think how far backwards TV journalism has come from the days of Cronkite, Sevareid, Huntley and Brinkley. At the head of that pack is Fox News, the journalistic equivalent of the Looney Tune animated cartoon network.

Comedians (Entertainers) like Maher and Letterman have no duty to be fair or unbiased in their representations. The TV talking heads of yesteryear you mention were news journalist whose job was not to editorialize with "opinion" but just to be "talking heads," delivering "news" in it purest form.

What's unfortunate is the proliferation of commercial "news" outlets and the subsequent deterioriation in what is reported as "news." Reporting the raw, unfiltered misrepresentations being bandied about in this heathcare debate with no subsequent reporting saying - "by the way, the talk about "death panels" is a flat out looney tune" has been a disastrous distraction from a serious issue.

Backwards TV. You want backwards TV. Watch MSNBC, oh thats right, no one does. The only reason they are still in business is because the dictator, Obama, has given them tarp money. Our tax dollars to keep a TV network going so it can be in bed with the Obama administration. Isn't that special!!!

Fox news kiscks MSNBC on a nightly basis and you libs can't handle that(LOL)

I watch MSNBC because, the news they report can be verified by checking other credible news organizations. And if a mistake is made they are quick to correct the error. You see what matters most is the integrity of the story. Not the ratings. You care more about their ratings than MSNBC does. Get your priorities straight. Every day and night FOXNEWS finds new ways to distort a story, while MSNBC still has its integrity. Thats something YOU know and can't stand. Because you know its true. FOXNEWS is the Milli Vanilli of news channels.

Dave,

Stick to the jokes. The liberal bull stuff will put your rating back in the can. The last thing I want is a comedian talk show host doing political commentary.

Uh..I'm sorry to inform you, but most comedians talk about politics in their material. Where have you been? Just because David Letterman is not talking about the 'right' things that you obviously prefer to hear, it does not make it any less 'based on fact' and any less humourous. Letterman's ratings in the can because he says something you don't like? I didn't realize his ratings were based solely on your feedback. Such power.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:19 PM on 09/03/2009

Actually, Letterman's ratings aren't "in the can". He's beating Conan. (I love both shows.) Nightline beats Letterman season-to-date, but only by about 100,000 viewers. And Letterman's ratings went UP during the whole Palin hysteria.
I love to see Dave getting political, even if it's only in his very benign way. Personally, I think he'd get better ratings if he got a lot more political and a lot more acerbic. If you don't like Dave, you can watch the God-awful Leno when he brings is hackneyed, contrived, sycophantic, milquetoast a$$ to prime time... but catch it while you can. I predict a short life.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:20 AM on 09/05/2009

I love when people think they belong to such a large group - when really they are on the isolated fringes. As if Letterman's ratings could be hurt because he made a joke about Dick Cheney - that's ridiculous!

Almost as ridiculous as Republicans claiming that if Dems pass insurance reform without them, voters will stage "a minor revolution."

As the election in 2008 showed, the Majority of Americans are now firmly progressive. All the GOP has left for their base are the fringe wackos.

I'm not on the GOP side, but I do try to look at things from clear glasses. You can count on one hand the number of people in the Press that have ever asked Obama a question harder than "duh, what's your favorite movie?"
I think it was not a hard hitting interview, but let's get realistic, unless Dave wants to start commenting on the obvious love fest between President Obama and 95% of the media today.

I guess I'm just not watching the same things you are, pltn. But President Obama was JOKING when he said at the journalist dinner, "all of you voted for me" with the exception of the Faux News table. If nothing else, just by giving the impression that the false "angry citizens" at the town hall represent a discernible proportion of the electorate, the media has done more to sabotage the President's health care initiatives than the most strenuous Rushpublican lying. And it goes on and on. Check out MediaMatters for a point of view that (obviously) disagrees with yours on what the media has been doing.
