Why isn't this the law already?
mandatory minimums have bad history in this country. How long before people begin to complain that this law targets black people?
I may be a "gun-toting lefty" by most people's assessment and staunchly believe in gun rights... but enforcing gun laws is paramount and a law that has mandatory jail time for unauthorized weaponry is fine by me.
Now.... we can argue about what Chicago considers a good reason to "authorize" a weapon (especially for abused women with a stalking spouse, small business owners, etc. After all, the police are not legally required to protect you or prevent crime... and what is the time-to-arrive statistic for a 911 call in Chicago? Hmm?)
