What's Your Reaction?
Holder Hate Crimes

Washington Post:

My friend and fellow columnist Eugene Robinson has written a characteristically passionate and well-reasoned piece commending Attorney General Eric Holder's decision to name a special counsel to examine possible law-breaking by interrogators of terrorist subjects during the last administration.

But I think he is wrong.

Broder needs to be tied and made to watch Stephen Colbert's Press Club performance over and over until he repents.

From Broder:
"First, let me stipulate that I agree on the importance of accountability for illegal acts and for serious breaches of trust by government officials -- even at the highest levels. "

Yes, important, but not important enough to actually do anything.

"Now, let me completely reject everything I just said. I just said the first bit to confuse the issue so you couldn't hold me accountable for proposing that Republican war criminals be kept forever above the law."

Wrong, Mr. Broder. We are not worried about nit-picky little interpretations; we are discussing major flouting of our country's constitution and laws! Our nation was assaulted in the worst possible way, and I want the law to judge it!

Please retire, Mr. Broder. Your timidity helps no one. My cat barks louder.

Accountability is essential; government can only improve if it is held to, and upholds, a high ethical and moral standard.

Petty crooks serve years for small crimes of property and self-abuse (drugs). There should be even greater scrutiny of those who are allowed to act in secret in the name of the government and national security--and without question when there is already evidence of wrong-doing.

No accountability, because it would be bad for those breaking the laws. Is that the entire piece in a nutshell?

Unfortunately for Mr. Broder, the cures would have been and will be far better than all the diseases he mentions.

Mr Broder you must stop being a reporter or journalist and giving your opinions publicly.

You wrote "I had no problem with the impeachment proceedings against Richard Nixon, and I called for Bill Clinton to resign when he lied to his Cabinet colleagues and to the country during the Monica Lewinsky scandal"

It's scandalous you wanted Bill Clinton to resign for the Lewinsky affair but you are willing to
excuse war criminals and violators of the Constitution.

Before a criminal act he or she must be conscientious there will be consequences,
Mr Broder we hold the Constitution in high regards,no man, party or ideas is higher.

If David Broder really believed the statements he made in this, the latest of many flawed columns; he would have made more of an effort to present a convincing case. He didn't, we're not surprised he didn't. What remains contains no shred of his normal pretense of political neutrality. Enablers of the Right SHOULD openly court the Right; stand in visible solidarity with the Right. Job security they may have; whether or not they deserve it is up to public opinion. You just heard mine.

Well, Mr. Broder, you make a good point. And since America is a nation of laws, and no individual is above the law, we should be able to take one of your key paragraphs, change the names from one set of individuals to another, and get the correct answer to this conundrum:

"Looming beyond the publicized cases of these relatively low-level [informants, guards, torturers and executioners] is the fundamental accountability question: What about those who approved of their actions? If accountability is the standard, then it should apply to the policymakers and not just to the underlings. Ultimately, do we want to see [Eichmann], who backed these actions and still does, standing in the dock?"

Broder:
"NO! [Eichmann] and his patriotic collegues should get off scott free!!!"

Add 2 words and what do you get? Something completely different:

Just like the "The Sweet Science" is actually "The Sweet Science of Bruising", the US had "the Rule of Law" but is actually "the Rule of Law of Convenience".

"When President Ford pardoned Nixon in 1974, I wrote one of the few columns endorsing his decision, which was made on the basis that it was more important for America to focus on the task of changing the way it would be governed and addressing the current problems. It took a full generation for the decision to be recognized by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation and others as the act of courage that it had been. "

We Got BushCo BECAUSE NIXON WAS PARDONED!

No Accountability has created the most fascistic America we have ever seen.

A Corporate Army is Fighting our battles in Afghanistan and Iraq!

War Crimes going unpunished, is good for society? Really, just step back and repeat that a few times.
