NFL's Redskins Sue Season Ticket Holders Who've Lost Their Jobs

On Oct. 8, the Redskins sued Hill in Prince George's County Circuit Court for backing out of a 10-year ticket-renewal agreement after the first year. The team sought payment for every season through 2017, plus interest, attorneys' fees and court costs.

Hill couldn't afford a lawyer. She did not fight the lawsuit or even respond to it because, she said, she believes that the Bible says that it is morally wrong not to pay your debts. The team won a default judgment of $66,364.

I was tempted to go to an NFL game this year, but now I think I'll skip it. This isn't a Redskins problem, this is an NFL problem.

For one thing - "Donovan said. 'For every one we sue, I would guess we work out a deal with half a dozen,'" - that doesn't sound like they are going out of their way to accommodate. For another - if they are able to resell the tickets for the same amount, that should be it. I've been with businesses where a customer might back out on an order for whatever reason and we try to just sell to the next guy. If we had put together a custom order - out of the ordinary materials, etc, that might be different - but the stadium seats are the same from one year to the next, they didn't invest any new money building those seats. Sounds like ol' Donovan wants to make sure they think he's earning his keep.

I feel bad for her, but a contract is a contract. If I bought a car and lost my job, they can reposses my car and sue me for what I owe, and get a judgement, same thing with a house. Don't sign that contract. They probably went about it the wrong way, but they have every right to.

She should not pay. I know it's honorable to pay one's debts but these times are an exception. People are walking away from mortgages and credit card debt. The entire economy is in a shambles with high unemployment and the steady drip drip drip of jobs lost to outsourcing and offshoring. (It's the wall street way!) She has lost work. Personally I would tell the Redskins to f #5! - off. What, she's supposed to starve because they bought a new stadium with taxpayer dollars and are having trouble filling their seats during a down economy? Every business is having a hard time, including those that don't get sweetheart deals on taxes. It's a sport. A non necessity. And quite frankly, as a Redskins fan myself they SUCK. They've sucked every since that A-hole bought the team. Get rid of the owner, learn compassion, stop ripping off fans and win some games and then they'll be able to fill their seats. Geez, how hard is that?

Realestate salse people like her made millions when the ball team got new diggs. People like her supported the tax increases for the team stadium and other tax breaks. Now she is paying for that like the average working guy who could not afford the tax increases.

Actually it isn't greed that took over. It's Dan Snyder. He all but stole the team from the Cook family, who would have never done this to any fan. Contract or not.As long as he owns the team, they are destined for mediocrity AND huge profits. What's the proverb about losing ones' soul??

Like the NHL, the NBA, and Major League Baseball, the NFL is a racketeer-influenced and corrupt organization, one where a cartel of thirty-two owners prey on the insecurities and egos of municipal communities to blackmail them into providing new stadiums and all matter of perks and privileges while putting ticket prices out of reach of their fan base and bleeding everyone else dry.
