in addition to its role in the civil war, the confederate flag has also transformed into a symbol of regional pride...liberals often confuse regional (ie Southern) pride with racism when its often the same kind of pride as that of hispanics in this country or those of irish decent etc. etc.

The South has no separate heritage, It has always been a part of the U.S. except during their period of Rebellion. The South like most of the rest of America was settled by Europeans of many descents but a large quantity came from Ireland and Scotland. That has already been established as fact. Irish were soldiers in large numbers on both sides. So in fact whatever heritage the South created was created in a very short time and was created on the backs of slaves. If you really feel that you want to take pride in that kind of heritage that is up to you but I doubt that I would.

This is what comes of not having made it a point to forbid the Confederate Flag long ago just as the Germans did the Nazi Flag. What is the difference. The Southerners treat it as badge of honor because the rest of the U.S.s attempt to mollify them so that we could all get along. It hasn't worked anymore than letting Germany escape total defeat in WWI did for them. Had Germany been throughly beaten the first time their might never have been a WWII. In this case the South was throughly beaten, but not shamed enough apparently. So now we have some Southerners who pretend to be good Proud Americans all the while waving around their Confederate Battle Flag too. Some like the KKK and Aryan Nation types even go so far as to display Nazi Flags in their homes as well.

The confederate battle flag is a symbol of treason.

I see that picture and I feel the strong urge to sell designer toilet paper.

Next time you run into one of these "it's part of history" twits, ask them to answer the following:
Who designed it?
Who sewed the first one?
What date was it adopted?
If "history" is their true starting point, they should be able to immediately answer each and every one of them.

Strange, but when one mentions the hatred that a certain fringe has for African Americans or almost any other race, that fringe is quick to call others N.A.Z.I.

Yet in their own ignorance, they participate in similar behavior.

Does it represent heritage? Ancestry? Fallen brethren?

Can that be the claim of those who honor it?

Or does it serve as a subliminal rally symbol for the OPPRESSION of slaves and African Americans?

I believe in FREE SPEECH. I have no qualms concerning the flying of this flag.

As long as it doesn't fly in gov't or state offices, and as long as those who fly it explain their TRUE feeling behind it.

and also will be subject to explain why using other humans as nothing more than farm animals is honorable.

If they can find any GENUINE Confederate soldiers... Fine. Let 'em march.

But not a bunch of little boys playing dress-up.

AMERICA DEFEATED THE CONFEDERACY.

What began as a symbol of TREASON is now and has been a SYMBOL OF HATE.

It should only appear while attached to fire.

The next logical step, then, is to carry the flags of all the countries the US has fought and defeated. But a lot of these clowns would LOVE to carry the flag the Germans used in the 30's and 40's.

It is a part of our history as the flags of Japan and Germany are. It does not belong in a parade of Veterans of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Veterans of the Confederacy are not veterans of the United States of America. They no longer considered themselves a part of the United States of America, they were part of the Confederate States of America.

Are the vets that are marching from the civil war? If not put that flag away. It has no place in todays society. What is wrong with these people?

Excuse me...was this not the battle flag of a group of people who were fighting against the United States of America and killing soldiers of the United States of America...those who are being honored for Veterans' Day? Why don't we fly the flag of the Third Reich, the Soviet Union, North Viet Nam, North Korea, and all of the other enemies we have faced in battle as well?
