Cool page from Israel Antiquities Authority exploring the DeadSea scrolls.

This thread is about an important and exciting archeological find. Those with obsessive Israel-envy need to find a more appropriate site.
Here's the Israel Antiquities Authority site:

Enjoy exploring one of the most fascinating archeological areas of the world.
Just in time for the holidays, fragments will be available at Walmart.
The giant wall was built by Canaanites, their territory described as
" . . . a region encompassing modern-day Israel and Lebanon, the Palestinian Territories, plus adjoining coastal lands and parts of Jordan, Syria and northeastern Egypt. " (Wikipedia).
Archaeologists and historians disagree about whether Hebrews were a Canaanite tribe or, as the Hebrew scriptures say, invaders.
But it's clear that the Zionist claims of primary occupation, disputed in their own scriptures, is false.
Additionally, the area was conquered by Arabs in 638 and Jerusalem has been one of Islam's holy sites since that era. So there's been a substantial Arab population there for some time also.
So the reality is that the area has been populated by a variety of peoples, including a minority of Jews -- who cannot be made into the primary owners of the land except via Zionist fabrications and manipulation of colonial regimes who imposed Israel on the area.
you have wikipedia as a source, go show that to any professor and you will be laughed at...
the zionists, which you like to throw around like its some dirty word, only means people who think their should be a home for a jewish people, and that home is their ancient homeland..
Arabs did conquer jerusalem, but their was always a jewish population in israel, they never left. A majority did because they were forced too, but many did stay, they either converted to islam to avoid death, or they hid their religion.
That area was nothing before the jews came and built it up, they built the foundations and made that area the center of the world for much of history. Israel exists because a mass amount of jews during the 1800s through the 1940s migrated to that region and created cities. If you have ever read the history of Tel Aviv, you would know they didnt take over the nearby muslim city, but tel aviv kept growing and growing and surpassed the size of every city in the area. Israel was never imposed, it was won. Actually its history is very similar in the way america started...
They went to a foreign land to escape being persecuted, they grew in size, the native populations (even a few native jews, who were way more religious, didnt love the influx of people) felt threatened, declared independence, war, they won the war, another war, they won that also....
Wikipedia is generally reliable, quickly corrected when it's wrong. For sure there are Zionists eager to leap on any error that hurts their cause.
"That area was nothing before the jews came and built it up, they built the foundations and made that area the center of the world for much of history. '
This is part of the Zionists' core arrogance.
First of all, there were marvelous, highly cultured non-Jewish civilizations there. The Phoenicians, to name one such culture, created a Mediterranean trade network and founded major cities such as Carthage.
There is no comparable Jewish culture. Jewish cultural achievements have always been in other peoples' cultures. Ornaments on Solomon's temple, described in the Bible, for example, contain Phoenician symbols. The Hebrews occupied others' cities, they never built anything original. Historically, they have been an asterisk in the history of the area's great regional empires, some of which easily overran the Hebrew kingdoms.
The area is not now nor has it ever been the "center of the world for much of history." It gained prominence after Christianity and Islam arose, but the vast majority of the world's population has remained blissfully unaware of the area until recently.
How refreshing to read a post that makes sense! Thank you......
"The Hebrews were in fact latecomers on history's stage. All across the Bible lands, cultures had come to birth, assumed classical form, and run their course for hundreds and even thousands of years before Abraham was born." (John Bright, A History of Israel, Philadelphia: Westminster, 1959, pp. 17-18; quoted by Frank Epp, Whose Land is Palestine?, p. 30)
Great! So let the Cannanites come and claim the land! OOPS...the
Jerusalem used to be a Jewish capital . It is a Jewish capital now. It has majority Jewish population.
You wanna throw Jerusalem Arabs into a panic? Tell them they going to be under Palestinain rule soon.
LOL
Deal with it.
--and you base your decision on what?
Where IS Palestine??? According to the Arabs and their kids' schoolbook
The Palestinians hate it when archeologists discover ancient temples and artifacts showing the Hebrew presence there from biblical times.
That's why the Islamists have been raping the Temple Mount for years. Islamic authorities have displayed a vicious disregard for Jewish and Christian culture in the region, to the point of denying their existence.
"Antiquities found in the dumps include a pillared figurine leg from the time of the First Temple; pottery from the First Temple -- the earliest identified shard is from the eighth century BCE; and pottery from the Second Temple -- including the Hellenistic and Early Roman periods.
According to a Waqf worker who participated in the construction in 1996, stones with decorations and inscriptions were recut so that markings were destroyed. He said he saw writing on the stones in ancient Hebrew. He also saw 5-pointed star symbols on the stones, which we know was a Hasmonean symbol commonly found on handle seals from the second century BCE."

does it now? Palestine never even existed until the late 1800s, the same time as mass jewish migration to that area..
the palestinians are actually exiled iraqis from babylon a thousand years ago, they are not the ancient phillistines during Kane and abel times. Also it was the muslim conquerers who invaded jerusalem in the 7th century, three hundred years later the palestinians came to jerusalem for a better life because they have been treated like 3rd class citizens int he arab world for thousands of years, and even still do today...
why doesnt jordan or syria, or egypt or saudi arabia open their borders for palestian refugees? because they dont want them, they are only using them as politcal pawns against israel....
In fact, what we know as Palestine was first referred to as such by the Greek historian Herodotus (know as "the father of history") during THE FIFTH CENTURY BCE.
The United Kingdom of Israel lasted a mere 72 years - a grain of sand on the beach when compared to the overall history of Canaan/Palestine.
Who is /was a Palestinian?? Only Arabs? BS! Ariel Sharon was born in Mandatory British Palestine,as they called it...he's a Palestinian! Arafat was born in Cairo,Egyp
The headline should read: "Massive" 3,700-Year-Old Wall Discovered In Occupied East Jerusalem.
I am also confused about the reference to the "City of David." At last report, there is no credible archaeological evidence that King David ever existed. More importantly, there is no reference to him in the thus far discovered writings of contemporary neighboring kingdoms. Indeed, many archaeologists, including eminent Israelis, are of the view that King David is comparable to Britain's King Arthur - a myth. I have no axe to grind on the issue, but until some concrete evidence is provided, I will remain a King David sceptic.
...and any weather report forecasting a sunny day should read "...the Sun that will be shining on Occupied East Jerusalem".
Schizophrenia starts with fixation on some ideas and progresses into seeing a vision regardless of reality.
That proves there was a Bronze Age city there, built by the Canaanites or whoever they were.
...and you repeat this every hour? On every thread? Regardless of topic?
How long does this fixation on one pure extreme idea go on?
He repeats the truth..whi
---- and in what cloistered section of New York are you from kid???
you really are ignorant of informatio
how nice.... you made the mistake twice!
This was discovered 20 years ago, the true story is that this is in Palestinian territory and the Jews are marking the territory is theirs..be
The way I see this is that Taiwan still belongs to China just as it was 3700 years ago and Pakistan still belongs to India as it was years ago and Australia and Canada still belong to their aborginals too and on and on and on..so what makes Israel special?
Israel holds its land the same way everyone else you mentioned including Americans held theirs.. by force if necessary.
AND Texas belongs to Mexico!
..and the "Kingdom of Israel" is still nowhere to be seen, hmm..
The Flying Spaghetti Monster touched that wall with His Noodly Appendage!
Why is everyone turning this cool old wall that survived for thousands of years into some politcal hate filled comments?
If there was a 3700 year old wall discovered in china, nobody would care and huffington post wouldnt post it...somet
within the last 8 years the US has likely killed at least 100 thousand iraqis and afghans, control their governments, build anything we want, and we call it a war and that we are providing democracy.
Israel doesnt do nearly the damage the US does, and yet are criticized far more..
If this country wasnt prodominately jewish, and was more muslim, people wouldnt even blink and would think nothing of it...If it was the US people would applaud it, the hypocrasy is running wild here
"the US has likely killed at least 100 thousand iraqis and afghans"
The Iraqis and Afghanis are the ones doing 90% of the killing. We're just doing our best to stop it.
That would be an interesting point of view if it didn't leave out so many FACTS about the US invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and so many FACTS about the brutality of Israels invasion and occupation of Palestine.
The relevant facts are - as I remember from the article, is that the discovered section of the wall is something like 24 meters, and the wall is 8 meters high, and there are boulders of 4 or 5 tons. Quite impressive. And the wall is supposed to be longer of course.
Have you anything interesting to add about the wall? Some interesting facts (please keep your CapsLock button in correct position).
Oh please enlighten me on those lovely facts you keep shouting about....
which ones? the no weapons of mass destructions? The no finding Bin Laden? please I would love to know why we invaded a country that had nothing to do with 911, and another country that we had terrible information about where Bin Laden was hiding..
or that fact we shipped out his entire family from our country for their protection
If my memory serves me right, the palestinians had the chance at a 2 state solution in 1948, they said no, they thought they could win a war, they lost, they did it again in 1967, they also lost again. They lost because of their greed, they would have had their own state that would be 60 yeas old, but they wanted more and lost. Germany lost the war, as did japan, and if they hadnt we likely wouldnt have anything that resembled europe now, the west coast of the US would belong to japan..
If you feel bad for people who lose a fair war, so be it, I only hope when you are on the losing side, you dont complain.
I appreciate your comments..
Nearly everyone loves to forget that it is the Christians who have had their eyes on Israel for over 1000 years.. and believe that this area is integral to fulfilling their Religious Destiny.
Craftsmen in Egypt had built pyramids 500 to 800 years before the roughly 1700 BCE dating of this archeological find in Jerusalem. We know from the Biblical accounts of Joseph (in the range from 1650 BCE to 1550 BCE), that travel was common place to and from Egypt from what is modern day Israel.
The only thing we know from the biblical accounts of Joseph is that there is a story in the bible about a guy named Joseph.
The Bible is known for being very accurate historically.
