Clearly, opposites attract. Just consider the marriage between incoming Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and his wife Miyuki. While Hatoyama, head of the upstart Democratic Party of Japan, is largely viewed in Japan as one of the duller members of a fairly colorless profession, Miyuki, an inspirational speaker and former actress, is literally out of this world.

I'm not sure she "had to" fight her demons in public. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but it seems as if she made a point of going public to encourage others with addictions to seek help. In the 70's, it would have been easier for a First Lady to get treatment and keep it a secret than it would be now. In any event, I admired her very much.

I like Betty Ford. She had fresh ideas for a First Lady of her times. She had to fight her demons in public which I believe help many, many people accept and seek treatment for their addictions.
