The King brothers, then 12 and 13-years-old, were convicted nearly a decade ago as adults of beating their father to death with a baseball bat while he slept. While their motives are unclear, speculation is that they were under the influence of their neighbor, a convicted sex offender. He was initially acquitted but then convicted of being an accessory after the fact.

The brothers, now released from prison, are speaking out about their life before and after incarceration in an interviews with NBC.

"um, we did um, make a...um...mistake um, um ,um, um"

It drives me nuts when people use "um" between every other word.

The smarmy, honey-tongued, one gives me the creeps. He dominates his older brother, and has his lines all worked out to perfection. He is completely insincere. I don't believe him for a minute. He is a monster, and I wouldn't trust him as far as I can spit.

He kept on talking about a "mistake", as though cold blooded murder were a math problem. Give me a break. It wasn't a mistake, it was a freaking assasination!

The other one just seems weak, somewhat simple, easy to influence.

Despite his tender age, the young one was obviously a very bad influence on his brother, and it does not bode well that they have decided to create a new life together.

"The devil made me do it" provides an all too convenient excuse. There is something defective here. We may all be subjected to bad influences at any moment in our life, but that does not give us license to bludgeon those close to us, while defenseless in their sleep, with a baseball bat. That is premeditated. That is heinous. That is anything but a mistake.

The fact that these brothers are "re-united" and working as a single entity again will re-establish the same, comfortable, ugly old patterns. It won't take long for some resentment to find another tragic outlet. What will the excuse be then: "I had a screwed up childhood"?

I'm sorry I can't wish this deadly duo luck. Luck is not in their cards.

Such brutal savagery is revolting beyond words. I can't believe many of the comments here, treating first degree murder like cheating on a school test where a little counseling might be in order.

One has to suspect that these guys are sociopaths. Otherwise it's nearly impossible to imagine a scenario that could drive kids 12 & 13 to such a violent, despicable act.

In which case, all this counseling is a total waste of time.

But whatever is wrong with them, sending them to an adult prison was an unconscionable act of its own. It's bad enough sending adults to these places. How can we ever expect them to "reform" in that kind of institution? It only makes them more vicious and cruel.

Wow, poor guys.

I hope they realize their dreams of a better future.

It looks to me that they've got a good start.

What a young man does when he gets out of prison has a lot to do with the way he was when he went in.

I wish them the best.

I find it very telling that the brothers were separated when serving time. I adopted a 10 year-old girl in 1997 but not her older brother and sister. The social worker's files recommended that the children not be placed together. When we got the 3 kids together, we began to understand why they shouldn't be placed together -- they were completely out of control.
I hope the King brothers are able to lead constructive and happy lives. I don't condemn them out of hand nor do I predict the worst since I have been in a similar situation. If they had killed a random person, I would be more concerned that this act was setting them up for sociopathic behavior.
I was concerned that there didn't seem to be any emotion for killing the father. It could be just because they have already come to peace with the past or it could be that they haven't come to peace with what they have done yet. I have not fully researched the past murder to come to any conclusion.
BTW, my daughter is doing well but her sister is a meth addict who abandoned her children and her brother sees the inside of a prison more often than he sees the outside. My daughter no contact with them.

Matt should have asked about the prospect of playing baseball- they seem to be good hitters.
Perhaps they could have gotten some professional direction from Michael Vic.

Come on most people do not understand what it takes to take a life! When your in the military they strip away a lot of your inner self in order for you to kill. A police officer goes through counceling after using his weapon. It takes a special type of person to take a bat and kill a person. I hope I'm wrong but they will both probably be in trouble soon. As a former combat Marine I still go to a Doctor to chase away the demons from 40 years ago.

Thats the part that troubles me is the father is not mentioned as an abuser but some outside sex offender. So story makes it seem as though outside person got them to murder a person they have built a long relationship with. Sorry but mostly what I see when I look at the clip is two people wanting to go out to the store to purchase baseball bats. I sure hope I am wrong.

Thugs! At age 12-13, nobody could ever convince me of killing someone! I was scared of stepping on bugs, much less killing someone!!! These two are nothing but pure thugs!!!

If me not having thoughts of killing someone at 12-13 years old makes me perfect to YOU, than call me Mr. Perfect. I was in 8th grade at 13, you mean to tell me that all we have to do is tell these 8th graders now to kill someone and they will??? You must have no faith in these children to do the right thing!

P.S. I cheated on a test at age 13, but I'm still perfect as long as I don't have thoughts of killing someone right? lol

Exactly right.

If, when, you are standing over your dad with the bat, there isn't some voice inside you that knows it's wrong...we don't need you in society.

It is amazing to me how many "adults" here forget how confusing life can be when you are 12 or 13 years old.

I was not there so I do not know what drove these kids to madness but the fact of the matter is that they have been released and I for one hope that they find some peace from the demons and the horror that they must live with.

If my kids killed me I am sure that I would not wish a lifetime of prison and pain upon them.

I remember that as young as 5 or 6 I understand the value of life and the consequences of violent actions.

To say they didn't know what they were doing at 12 or 13 is absurd....if they DIDN'T then they were never going to be of much value to society anyway.

Reality show: "So You Want To Date A Murderer?" Twelve girls compete to see who gets a date with both of the King brothers. (All contestants will wear helmets at all times.)

That's the idea. Now I have to turn it into a concept.

Think they should wait 10 years and then come on tv. If they are keeping their nose clean after 10 years then fine come on tv and talk about it but now is not really the time.

So you advocate live burial for children or would you kill them first? Pretty heartless. Much like the pedophile who directed them to kill their father.

Since you seem to have such insight, pehaps you can understand their motivation better than the rest of us?

Easy to say, but I wouldn't want to have two children who murdered their father to live with my family. And I am one who is happy to see them get a second chance. But they had to had serious problems when this took place and they would have def needed to have intensive, inpatient, psychiatric care. I just don't believe that jail was an apprpriate answer in this situation.

wow. a lot of comments from people who know nothing about this case. i watched the full coverage on court tv. these kids were manipulated into murder by an adult who preyed on at least one of them sexually. these boys were used and abused.

Seriously...

If there isn't something inside you that tells you to NOT kill your dad while he's asleep, then...

We don't need you in society.

Every kid gets taught good touch, bad touch these days, if they don't know to not kill their dad because their secret abusive rapist tells them to INSTEAD of telling ANYONE....well...
