More Al-Qaeda Plane Terror Plots 'Likely'

Al-Qaeda is likely to try again to use aircraft to attack the West, Whitehall officials have told the BBC. Security correspondent Frank Gardner said they believed the airline bomb plot was part of al-Qaeda's "obsession" with using commercial airliners.

An article in the Utah newspaper "Deseret News" reports on a former terrorist who says that the next attack will be a nuclear suitcase bomb carried aboard a general aviation craft.

Why this is a likely scenario is that no one who boards these little planes is ever screened. Same for helicopters.

He predicted the the last attacks, and says that because of symbolism, the next attack is imminent.

not to long ago I watched a special on al-qaeda using ships for attacks, that sounded terrifying and made alot more sense. The open waters and cargo piracy happening right now is rampid along with the lack of knowledge of exactly what is being transfered. Tracking ships withing the canals and borders seems to go largely unnoticed.

We can learn from history. We knew al quaeda was in Afghanistan, and bush/cheney wanted to go into Iraq. We ignored history, in favor of personal greed, power and road to glory. We are out of Iraq soon, and then we need an exit strategy for Afghanistan. I hope the Afghan people has some kind of loyal government that will be able to hold back the Taliban, but we cannot establish and hold a democracy in Afghanistan. The people have to want it and overcome their fear of the Taliban and possible return of tyanny.

If you read about FedEx 705, using a commercial aircraft as a weapon was attempted years before 9/11/2001.

It was never all that publicized because it was a freight hauler and not passenger aircraft.

It is an axiom of military thinking that one cannot defend all points at all times.

Airlines are a weak point as shown dramatically on 9/11. And if one can bring down an airliner it is guaranteed that dozens if not hundreds of people will be killed.

So it would make sense that anyone striking out with senseless violence would look to airplanes and airliners.

But al Qaida got lucky on 9/11 because the fools in charge were looking the other way.

I doubt we will ever see any such spectacular success again.

For one thing, no plane full of Americans, or any other people, will allow hijacking pilots to fly anywhere they want. Not going to happen.

Plots yes but the ability to do it? Flight 93 showed it is no longer a simple thing to do. The fact that people will stand up to terrorists does deter them for more people knowing they are going to die will want to get their revenge and make them pay! Cheney didn't make America safe the people did.
