As the AP reports this morning, Bernard Madoff's luxury real estate - and one infamous boat - are being put up for sale by the U.S government. This includes houses in New York City; Palm Beach, Florida; Montauk, New York; and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Here's how the AP described Madoff's New York City penthouse:

"It's where Bernard Madoff broke down and confessed to his massive fraud, frantically wrote checks for millions of dollars as the scheme unraveled and appeared in a bathrobe to greet the FBI agents who arrested him.

Soon the world will see whether Madoff's luxury penthouse apartment -perhaps the only former crime scene featuring four fireplaces, a wraparound terrace and closet space galore - also will hit the jackpot on the Manhattan real estate market.

The U.S. Marshals Service plans to put the 4,000-square-foot duplex in a 12-story doorman building on the Upper East Side up for sale this week, betting that exclusivity outweighs notoriety."

Also on sale are Madoff's 8,700-square-foot estate in Palm Beach, Florida, a yacht called "Bull," two smaller boats docked in Fort Lauderdale, and a beach side home in Montauk. (Check out some pictures of of his beach home here.)

Below, we've compiled some photos of Madoff's extensive real estate holdings. Check out photos of Bernie's confiscated luxury properties:

For as much money as they stole, one would think they would have had a better decorator. Looks to me that Ruth did it herself. Buying a piece here and there and never having a cohesive plan. WOW

This more than anything else is why I don't trust Obama anymore.

The moment it became clear he wasn't going to fight to actually clean up the financial industry is the moment it became clear that the hope and change rhetoric was just that, rhetoric. All he cares about is keeping corporate money in dem hands, he doesn't dare anger his corporate sponsors.

Bring back the Glass Stegal Act to promote fair competition and eradicate monopolies and too big to fail conglomerates.

Do not allow foreign owned multinationals to own too much American real estate or stock in any individual American manufacturer or corporation.

So many criminals yet so few convictions! Banks perpetrated a global ponzi scheme yet Bernie though guilty ; will most likely be the only person convicted.

It seems our efforts to achieve actual results with regards to reform in the banking & finance sectors are futile. In addition, the disconnect between reality and wall street keeps widening. The situation is frustrating.

I don't care for most of the decoration but it looked like a nice place to live. I wonder if that is genuine tiger skin on the table on the right in image one.

The NYC penthouse is beautifully furnished. The walls painted with browns and taupes, is elegant. The boat is nice too. But, I'm not jealous.

How this man could hold onto all these properties and scam so many people is tragic.

I don't think he'll be needing a decorator period. I don't think he can put up much stuff in prison.
