This is how insurance supposed to work, everybody buys in and few use, and hopefully there is enough money left in the pot to cover all users.

The only other option is "wild west" option, no one buys anything , but you pay for yourself when you get sick or need medical care.

Is this gonna work??? Most likely NOT , as it will definitely bankrupt anyone who falls sick.

All countries in industralized world have it, and their costs and health care quality is lot better the ours, AND they all love it, are they insane?

Your rude behavior, Mr. Wilson, toward the president last night, shouting out that he's a "liar" was DESPICABLE.

The ENTIRE Republican party has lost all sense of civility, inciting people to carry guns, frightening the elderly with lies, and inciting hate speak. And, this from people who claim to be "Christians." Your actions destroy your witness!

Democrats FULLY understand that it's because as SOUTHERNERS you are unable to accept a BLACK MAN as president. That's the real issue for your foul behavior. Your privileged position as white and male is over. Get used to seeing women in positions of power too.

The academic stats from your state (and all those in the South) are PROOF that your children CANNOT AFFORD to miss even ONE minute of school!Stop brainwashing your children into racist ideologies.

TOTALLY agree. It's a racial thing. It just makes me sick that our Presidents 'back to school' speech was boycotted by these people. He had the EXACT same 'what can you do to help the President' question that his (White) predecessors have included in statements to kids. But a Black man has to abide by a different set of rules. People rush to 'protect' the children from this President. Sad.

You know this is just me. The right wing talking point always is tort reform. There are more people shouting tort reform dont even know what it is. But when will someone point out that if tort reform is such a pressing idea (which actually i think should have some reform anyway) when the Republicans had it all why didn't they do anything about it? The answer: It only matters to them when democrats bring up a healthcare plan.

Theory: the democrats could actually pass single payer just calling it universal health coverage. republicans would vote for it gladly.

Sounds shocking right? There's a reason for that...

He probably had a prepared speech before last night (much like Karl Rove's website post that went up before the president had finished giving the speech) that covered the same old GOP talking points, assuming that the president wouldn't have done such a great job of obliterating the logic behind them.

I missed his introduction and felt sorry for the guy because I thought MSNBC choose which rebuttal to use. I thought -they couldn't have chosen a more inane argument from a less prosaic speaker and I sorta felt sorry for the guy- until I realized that it was the official Republican rebuttal! Then, I started to feel good in knowing that they have completely lost the plot.

Obama had some good points but I fear he was just bating us with semi truths. The proof willbe in the legislation.
1. No more healthcare for illegals. He actually said no insurance, but should receive no healthcare atall, except to stabilize whatever condition took them to the doctor while the INS is called to take them to the nearest airport after their care. We also need to change citizenship rules to disallow automatic citizenship of illegal immigrants born here.
2. All citizens will be required to have health insurance. If they cannot afford, it should be provided and partially paid for with a combination of higher FICA rates and a lien for the balance like college tuition.
3. Tort reform. way too timid onthis and major part of any reform should have this. We waste billions doing too many tests to protect doctors against lawsuits and too many frivilent lawsuits are filed hoping they win the lottery. Losers must pay all court costs. Lawyers should be limited in their charges just like wall street.
4 Being able to keep insurance if losing a job. Great.
5. No exclusions for preconditions. Great.
6. We should be able to buy insurance across state lines. Good.
7. Any public option should be limited to citizens with certain diseases only(long term), short term for anyone else only as a last resort. The recipient pays "prevailing rates" for insurance to take away the incentive to go on the public plan except for emergency.

Point 1 above doesn't make sense at all, why would illegals be stpped from buying health care insurance if they can pay.

Its like saying, if you are illegal you can't buy car or groceries.

But think, how many illegal living on lower the min wages will be afford to buy health insurance.
