Olbermann Offers "Special Comment" On Joe Wilson: You've "Embarrassed The Nation" (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/10/09 05:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 03:00 PM ET

On "Countdown" tonight host Keith Olbermann offered a "Special Comment" about Republican Congressman Joe Wilson yelling out "you lie" during President Obama's speech last night to a joint session of Congress. Olbermann concludes that the only thing more offensive and embarrassing than the lack of civility Wilson displayed in "shouting at the President like he was a referee at a ball game and you were a drunk in the stands," is that Wilson was glaringly wrong in a comment that has "embarrassed the nation."

Olbermann digs deeper to uncover Wilson's sometimes tumultuous relationship with the truth.

Racial bigotry would have long been pushed into a small corner where it belongs if politicians would just leave it alone. Both sides continue to use it as a political weapon bringing new life to racism each and every day. A lot of people genuinely feel Barack and other politicians are whittling away freedom and choice on a daily basis and couldn't care less if it's coming from a black man, an angry white woman, or a fish for that matter. It does not matter who is doing it, they just want it to stop. But when J. C. (two Carter) publicly reminds the world that there once were people in white sheets flinging hate, it becomes new again. It's not always a race issue but now both sides seem hell-bent on making us believe that is the only issue.

KO left out the part that specifically forbids the "medical community" from requiring, or even asking for proof of citizenship when admitting a patient. That and other loopholes negates the FACT that the bill says no payment for those here illegally. Couple that with the push to grant amnesty and all illegals will be covered...they just won't be illegal anymore. As for claims that a "bi-racial" president is being accused of hating half his ancestry...read obama's book. He says he wrote it himself where he refused to accept his mothers race. Mr. Olberman is a great commentator but he needs to temper his facts with facts so they cannot be de-constructed by Mr. Beck or others. And enough with the race-card and the "Kool-aid" rants...from both sides. The only reason people are so bent out of shape is because they've learned to "read the bill" on loc.gov...something a lot of paid representatives are unable or unwilling to do (youtube.com/conyers.) It's time to break the cycle of politics as usual and demand congress do what the job requires or step out of the way because the american people ARE reading these bills and forming their own opinions without Keith, or Rush, or even Beck.

You know what I like about Keith the most? He goes off on these tirades of what he believes, he lets you draw you own conclusions. His views have one side, but you don't have to listen to paranoid conspiracy theories. Have you ever noticed how funny he can be? Best part? He doesn't need a chalkboard to talk to his listeners. He knows his viewers have enough brains to listen to what he has to say with out diagraming his thoughts on a chalkboard. Some people need chalkboards to understand a thought process, that is why there is faux. Every one likes to scream about ratings on faux. I can only say there are fewer intelligent people in the statistical measurement. BTW This is a blog. I will write in any form I choose. If you cannot understand what I ma saying, go back to redstate.

Keith, I am in love with you - I love brilliant men - and then you come along and are handsome, too! You said it for the nation of those that have a brain! Thank you.

You know, there is one really great thing about all the "righties" coming to this site. I can go through the pages so much faster as they never have anything of value to say. They pretty much call Dems names and then cheer each other on. "OMG" is junior high all over again. Have fun "righties" you finally have shown me you have purpose.

Okay the point that KO was trying to make was, the big picture with what is wrong with this country goes beyond incivility during Pres. Obama's speech, what's wrong is that those who have a problem with our president will go above and beyond was what at one time in our country considered being civil, they will spread their unintelligent spew to whomever they can get to listen to it. They will tell what ever lies they think the hateful people in this country want to hear. They will use their newfound power to brainwash the hateful to new levels. If this goes unchecked, the damage done will be far more than whatever damage was done by our previous president and his cronies.

I love how most of the negative comments aren't about the content of KO's rant, but about KO himself. Let's not address the argument, but denigrate the mouthpiece. The lack of argument about the content itself is as telling as the inability to argue against health reform on it's own merits. Barney Frank said it best on Maddow Wed night when he said, and I paraphrase "Their need to make up untruths about the bill to defeat it politically validates how good of a bill it actually is. They can't beat it on it's own merits."

Two wrongs don't give you the health insurance benefits you, your immediate and extended family members deserve. Is politics gonna cover you, your wife, children, parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews should any of you suffer from a life-threatening illness or someone in the next generation i.e. your grandchild or great-grandchild is born with a cancer or birth defect? Mind you, Wilson, Baucus and the rest of them are padding their nests eggs and we taxpayers provide them with the best government healthcare in the world.

Around the 9:50 mark, Keith defended Wilson's right to incivility, but I doubt you watched that much of it.

Anything else?

What about Sen. Harry Reid calling President G.W. Bush a Liar,
and then when confronted on Meet The Press by Tim Russett about what he said...Reid said he stood by his words, and would not, and never did apologize.
