I hope you do not feel these words are weak of me, but I see others have used Biden's simple yet honorable words from Mary Oliver's poem "Wild Geese." I'm glad it was Biden at ground zero on 9-11. After his brief 2 minutes, although I had longed for his usual emotional words, I was grateful Biden chose Oliver's prose over his own:

Mr. Biden: "There's a special fraternity for those of us who have lost spouses and children; but there is also one thing all Americans know to be true and which we remember most when we come to this site...in our joys, and in our sorrows, we know we belong to one another...

"...tell me about dispair, yours, and I will tell you mine, wrote the poet Mary Oliver. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again. Whomever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting...over and over announcing your place in the family of things." VP Joe Biden, Ground Zero, September 11, 2009

Joe said these words, paused, then stepped away. Thank you Mr. Vice President. Bless all who were touched by this anniversary...America.

The words were beautiful and understated...perfect if possible. Good on Joe; I think he knew less was more here, no more was needed. A special fraternity, indeed, Biden would know.

I'm late with posts, but should anyone visit this thread again, know that my thoughts are with all whose hearts broke on this day eight years ago...individuals, New York, this nation, the world.

We will never forget, but as Mary Oliver's words intimated, we move forward.

Curious. Never a response from anyone on Raila Odinga. Very curious. Well not. I guess.

To the fallen and their loved ones. I pray for your families. I also cannot even begin to imagine your suffering. God Bless all of you in your continued sorrow. Memories. Lack thereof, what might have been. I am so sorry.

Thank you, crazies. You've bashed whatever group you HAD to come here and bash. Now go back to your coffins.

Blessings and peace I send to all who lost a loved one eight years ago. While I mourned with each of you today, I can't imagine what you endured. Peace. I am sorry.

Obama declared this day a "Day of Public Service".

Nonesense. This is a day of remember and honor the dead and the heroes of that day.

I don't need the government telling me when I should "serve" the state.

No kidding!

I just went on to another thread and commented that September 11, 2001 was apparently not as sexy as raving on about that loudmouth bonehead, Joe Wilson and got shot down for being self righteous.

Guess I'll throw another log on the fire, have a Harpoon IPA and hit the hay.

Painful memories. The libs and cons would rather insult each other than contemplate what happened 8 years ago today.

Powell was in PA today. Bush is not President any more so he is being respectful for Obama to take the lead. One day this year you have to be this way. Do this tomorrow not today.

to all on the board. This is a day to remember teh fallen. Can we all be respectful today and not bash each other. This does not mean I won't call out the ones who feel it neccessary to mean today. Lets pray for the families who lost that day and the days since. .

I feel the same way. We should never forget. This day is as significant as Pearl Harbor Day.

However, I went to my new job today, and there was absolutely zip acknowledgment of this day from either co-workers or management. Even the town's churches did nothing special.

And Huffington Post's headlining story all day has been that toad Joe Wilson.

FYI, Joe Wilson did not vote for healthcare for illegals. He voted for treatment at hospitals, should they need it. We are humane ya know. Incidentally, in the last 48 hours, Joe has raised $750,000.00. Free speech ya'll. Who cares if he has to go say sorry. While inappropriate, it shows, what this admin has done to folks and leaders alike. Done. Headline as usual, misleading.

You don't even have to talk about "complicity", to justifyably blame the responsibility for nine eleven entirely on the Bush-regime.

Never in the history of human disaster, so many failed so completely to do their jobs, like the Bush-administration and it's agencies did before and during nine eleven.

They didn't make the USA any safer at all. In fact, they were the ones who .E.N.A.B.L.E.D. this .a.t.t.a.c.k. - wether through gross neglignce or intentionally, still remains to be seen.

If you are seriously interested in the questions regarding the lattter, which the second day, which will live in infamy, has i.n.c.i.t.e.d., look here:

FYI: Asia Times Online is no yellow press or pulp fiction-outlet, but a serious, well respected and reknowned magazine based in Hong Kong.

Take your time, read the article thoroughly and then THINK, before you rant.

You are problably the same person who would defend Obama for not getting the economy better in eight months but Bush should have prevented a horrible attack by determined terrorists. This was not prevented by errors in our intelligence system.

This country has been safe since September 11. there have been no attacks. That is fact not an opinion. Be respectful of the day.

But this country was NOTsafe ON September 11, 2001.

And THIS lies SOLELY and EXCLUSIVELY in the responsibility of the Bush-administration and it's either uncapable, or, only too capable members.

You say that this country has been safe since 9.11.
But, today this country has many more enemies than it did on 9.11. How much longer can we keep spending trillions to defend ourselves?
The illusion of safety that has been created is not sustainable.

I don't want to go down this road tonight, of all nights. But I recall all the other bombings Bin-Laden and his cronies carried out in the 90's. I'm not going to go down the Clinton road, but come on now. Bush was responsible for this? Give me a break. Those people hated us then and now.
