So where is Katharine Weymouth's resignation? This whole stupid thing was her idea. She has no qualification to be publisher except blood line.

Another example of an unholy alliace of media, policy makers and big business all greased by the almighty dollar. It is the usual "whom do you know" ... forget about what you know; and how accurate the information is.

Thanks to independent informational channels, like the Huff Po and other blogs, these facts are now more widely known and more ciritically analyzed.

HuffPo is not independent. Many stories are tilted to draw out certain responses from posters.

It should have been Katharine Weymouth who resigned.

But then what can one do when up against nepotism. If it were a private, family-owned company, maybe the word "nepotism" would be unfair; however, it is a public company.

Looks like Charles Pelton "fell on his sword" for the editor since "The dinners were to be held at the home of Post publisher Katharine Weymouth". She should be the one to go

Very true. WTF did it take Mr Pelton weeks to resign; it was far past m-f time? When will Ms Weymouth see fit to apologize for, at the least, toleating this ugly instance of attempting to prostitute what is left of the WAPO's reputation as one of America's newspapers of record?

In the new Vanity Fair, Ben Bradlee says that this salon business is insignificant, that the Janet Cooke affair was a bigger transgression. I'd say Cooke embarrassed the paper, but Katharine Weymouth killed it. The assignations were planned to have taken place in her home. They think they can undo the mess by firing a scapegoat, but they can't. We now know that we readers have a greater knowledge of and respect for journalistic ethics than does the publisher of The Washington Post.

What took 10 weeks? He trashed the reputation of the paper. He should have been gone the next day.

He had people above him in the food chain who agreed to this harebrained scheme. They needed a fall guy and he's it -- since his name is Pelton and not Meyers, Graham, or Weymouth.

Mr. Larry, he was a brand-new employee who was doing what he was told to do. Read up on this situation before you comment. The Publisher was giving him orders and then gave him the boot when her plans were revealed to the competition. He's been scapegoated in the worst way..

bossandnova,

This response is BS. Have you ever heard of the Nuremberg Defense*, as thats what you are proposing. He was a senior manager at the paper and an experienced professional. If it was wrong he should have know it was wrong. I have not absolved his superiors, they should be held responsible as well. Their failure of ethics does not forgive his.

*The Nuremberg Defense is a legal defense that essentially states that the defendant was "only following orders" ("Befehl ist Befehl", literally "order is order") and is therefore not responsible for his crimes. The defense was most famously employed during the Nuremberg Trials, after which it is named. re: Wikipedia

Are saying that the man was woefully in experienced? That doesn't fly. The WA PO hired an experienced promoter. The WA PO made a wretchedly bad mistake in hiring this particular promoter. The WA PO's publisher & her sychophants should resign too. The WA PO has a lot of goats at large. It the WA PO can't pen the goats, somebody should slaughter them. Goats running wild can do a lot of damage. Look at the mess Murdoch has made of the WSJ, FAUX NOISE, FAUX BIZ, etc.
