NBC New York:

As New York remembered the 9/11 attacks, a man with a loaded handgun tried to board a Delta Airlines flight at LaGuardia Airport, authorities said.

Transportation Security Administration Officer Raymond Rivera spotted the weapon in the man's carry-on bag and alerted Port Authority police who took him into custody.

Okay, this guy was a dumb@$$(he was likely illegally in possession of the gun inder NY law), but there is a bigger problem.

Lets say you are flying from Atlanta, GA to Manchester, NH with a handgun in checked luggage (transport of which is legal under Federal Law, and possession of which is legal under GA and NH law), but weather forces your plane to land in Newark, NJ, claim your bag, and you must stay the night. You are now illegally in possession of a handgun under NJ law.

Common sense dictates there must be enforcement of Federal Law over-riding the draconian anti-gun laws of the few states such as NY, NJ, IL, etc. that refuse to honor the legal right to own and transport firearms as prescribed under current Federal regulations.
