Survey: Miller, Wilson In Dead Heat

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) finds himself electorally vulnerable in the wake of his "You lie!" outburst during President Obama's address to a joint session of Congress, according to the latest numbers from Public Policy Polling.

Rep. Wilson (R-S.C.) trails challenger Rob Miller 44 to 43 percent in the poll. Wilson defeated Miller 54-46 in the 2008 election.

62% of voters in his district say they disapprove of Wilson's actions while just 29% think
they were okay. Overall, 49% of voters say that Wednesday's incident made them less likely to vote for Wilson in the future, while 35% said it made them more likely to do so.

"In a matter of seconds Joe Wilson turned himself from a safe incumbent into one of the
most vulnerable Republicans in the country for 2010," said Dean Debnam, president of
Public Policy Polling.

PPP surveyed 747 South Carolina 2nd Congressional District voters on September 10th and 11th. The survey's margin of error is plus or minus 3.6 percent.

Miller has raised over $750,000 since the incident.

No one should doubt that Wilson will make money from this. Remember how the system works ? -- have a dozen babies, or have an affair, or shout crazy things during a national presidential address to congress -- then comes non-stop news coverage, then comes crazy groupies with no life, then comes non-stop paid appearances, then comes a book or television or talk radio deal, etc.

Wilson's digging himself a deeper hole. First, he emails an apology to the White House (how tacky). Then he goes on TV to say he was right when he was wrong. Then he goes on TV again to say the Republican leadership forced him to apologize to the White House (childish and petulant). So he calls the White House but only get to speak to Rahm Emmanuelle (I loved this). Then he roles out an ad campaign to try to make $$$ on his 15-minutes of fame as the first man to call a sitting President of the United States a lie to his face.

And during this soap opera he never acknowledged that HE was wrong, that HE lied about illegal immigrants receiving benefits under Reform. Nor did he mention that HE VOTED FOR health benefits for illegal immigrants in 2003. PATHETIC.

Miller is a veteran, I am an officer in the Army and I will be deployed for the enxt election in 2010, but I will dump money into miller campaign. Wilson breaks $1 million

A source on Rep. Joe Wilson's campaign says his fundraising has broken $1 million -- and surpassed that of his Democratic rival, Rob Miller -- since his outburst of "You lie!" during President Obama's address to Congress Wednesday.

The source said Wilson's current tally is $1,005,021 from 18,859 donations amid a high-profile campaign on the Drudge Report and elsewhere telling conservatives that Wilson is "under attack" for his willingness to take on Obama.

Wilson, who initially apologized for his words, is now riding a reaction that has surpassed the liberal backlash to his words: Miller has raised less than $900,000, according to the Democratic fundraising site ActBlue -- though still more than enough to envigorate his challenge.

Still, Wilson's success -- despite having been criticized by Republican leaders -- represents the power of the conservative grassroots to reward politicians who confront the White House in the sharpest terms.
