What's Your Reaction?
Cheney

Miami Herald:

In the fear that followed the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Americans were told that defeating Al Qaeda would require us to ``take off the gloves.'' As a former commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps and a retired commander-in-chief of U.S. Central Command, we knew that was a recipe for disaster.

But we never imagined that we would feel duty-bound to publicly denounce a vice president of the United States, a man who has served our country for many years. In light of the irresponsible statements recently made by former Vice President Dick Cheney, however, we feel we must repudiate his dangerous ideas -- and his scare tactics.

The victims of 9-11 deserved to have a President and Vice President that

a. would heed advice from people like Richard Clarke, that attacks were coming.
b. would obey all Federal Laws including our Torture Laws.
c. would not Lie To Congress to Invade Iraq using the WMD Lies.
d. WOULD NOT TORTURE to get False Intel to Cover Up the truth about the WMD Lies.
(well I could go on)

If they aren't actively calling for enforcement of our Federal Torture Laws,
They DO Support Torture.

We tortured people out of viciousness and cowardice and the certainty that the people who ordered it were above the law. So far Obama hasn't seen fit to disagree with that legal theory. Perhaps the next person to hold that office will consider it his duty to put America back on the path of justice.

Soldiers are honorable. Cheney and others of his ilk with delusions of dictatorship are not. Cheney and his band of believers should be publicly excoriated for placing honorable servicepeople in positions of dishonor under the guise of serving the C in C.

Denouncing is far and away from prosecution and law enforcement. If we as citizens simply began to behave as the leaders of the country, breaking laws with reckless abandon for consequences and profiting from the breaking of these laws perhaps then the government would understand how inappropriate the leaders behavior is when they have a criminal caught in the act of law breaking and let them go free except for an occasional article in the news.

It is difficult to credit Cheney's defense of necessity on the torture file, because as in the Invasion of Iraq, he had signalled his intentions in advance. Circumstances didn't force Cheney to reluctantly order the torture of recalcitrant prisoners; he had been waiting for his chance.

We were all named at birth...
certain names..
to denote (or detonate us) when the time of the word arrived.

I don't trust the names since 2000...which seems to be when the message got out...
maybe before...

but years ago...

well...it works out most times.

The tortured had eventually received the message and told it...
and it hurt a bunch of people who had been in on some 'superplan'
for personal gain.
Freeing the multitudes at the bunch of people's loss...

Hoping the person would not tell...
the bunch of people got together (after the word was out but before the cuffs were on...or their friends did it while they were in jail)...
and went back in time...
to try to stop the person...

from telling.

In whatever way...
people are funny when they are afraid of getting into trouble.

"Here's a little secret...
just the Robin's sons will hear" - Paul Simon

What if the tortured were not the ones yet able to tell the secret...
but the secret had been passed back in time...
and someone was inflicting severe pain on those who would be told...
to make them not hear or process it when the time came.

Yesterday's news, again.

As a Canadian, I feel obligated to the people of the USA to say sorry. Your internal government politics is embarassing to watch, and cast's a world view of doubt.

The fact that a foriegn government has to prod your judicial system to do their job, is a given.
That it is a Europen country, and not Canada, is a failing of the Canadian government too.
As Canadians, we should have done something more, to have prevented the self-destruction of Americia.

sorry.

As a retired member and vetern of the Gulf & Kuwait, 90-91, Why did you not speak out then Sir?

Its good that you did.....finally.

How many have died sir?

Correct...

why not speak out?

Silence like a cancer grows.

I have found Canada, even people I KNOW are aware of things...
to have sat back and watched...
hoping for that big payoff that would clear the credit cards they 'wracked' up while the torture was going on.

you know something? it's felt like that at times to me ...'why isn't someone helping us, saving us from this horrible dynamic? horrible power? horrible force? (pick one or all or substitute your own term of understanding)

it does seem to me to be way past time to cease regarding each nation as a monolithic culture where all are up to the same thing, and time overdue to start applying a more holistic analysis that sees that while the militaristic enforcement apparatus of this terrible force headquarters in washington d.c., it is in service to classes of people who hide behind other national borders, embedded other cultures. and it feeds off the mighty resources, natural and human of the land and people living within the u.s.

it's way past time to look at what is meant by a new world order, and the new american century.
