Vladimir Putin today gave his strongest indication so far that he is planning to get his old job back as president, hinting that he is considering a return in 2012.

Speaking to a group of scholars and international journalists, Putin said that he and his successor, Dmitry Medvedev, would take a joint decision over which one of them would hold the post next. Putin stepped down as president in 2008, becoming Russia's prime minister, installing Medvedev in his place.

Same old inferior communist tactics! With one leg still deep into the "Cold-War" era, the word "CHANGE" and "DEMOCRACY" will ever elude Russians for time to come as long as mind-set like Vladimir Putin do exist! ---A Russian Roulette at its finest!

right, especially though when it comes to the "busted" arms shipment. Wonder how many of the cargo ships do not get "hijacked" during some strange circumstances and make their way to Iran, N-Korea and where ever old KGB boy Putin can help out.

I predict a rash of murdered journalists, excessive nuclear posturing, and a manufactured crisis with Ukraine in the next few months. -A sort of faux destabilization of the Russian border regions that will preceed Putin's 'necessary' return to office.

I think Putin and Bush truly are soul mates who have learned the same lesson from history; that the manufacturing of consent must be preceeded by a manufacturing of crisis, because the proletariat is most easily manipulated when most afraid.

Tovarish, Tovarish.
You have been reading too much of the uninformed western press with their usual anti-Russian propaganda; they haven't changed, they are so predictable.
There will be no ' crisis ' as you state. Vladimir Illich will stay in power because we WANT him to stay; it is that simple.
As far the border encroachment you have been trying to carry out the past eight years, we will not let it happen; it is also that simple.
You respect us, we will respect you; see how simple life can be ?

Putin is the most effective single leader in the modern world.

He's nearly single-handedly brought Russia back from the brink in less than a decade, and continues to lead it towards greatness once again.

No wonder that so much of the rest of the world (sans NATO states) look up to his leadship for guidance and leadership.

He's also one of the richest men in the world. He's just another Russian oligarch who has the power of the FSB behind him to "regulate commerce."

Is he? Facts?

He has brought many oligarchs down. Those who became insanely rich after the USSR collapse and gave nothing in return to the common people. Along the lines of pure Capitalism they squeezed every penny out of the regular folks and are now spending the rest of their lives in London, New York and their enormous yachts, laughing at those fools left behind in Russia.

I am not saying Russia is an ideal country now, but Putin has brought it back from a completely destroyed and ruined nation to one that is again able to participate with the rest of the world and where people gradually start to earn more and live better.

KGB, Tovarish, KGB.
The organization has gone thru a number of name changes over the last almost three centuries ( it was started by Tsar Nicholas the 1st in 1826, it was given the name of ' the third directorate ' ).
This FSB name was given for foreign consumption; it is still very much KGB in substance and style.

Correct.
And no wonder that NATO states cannot stand the fact that they are recovering again at such a fast pace!

He's also power-hungry, anti-American, has one foot firmly grounded in the past and the KGB. He might have been good in the past to rebuild Russia, but he would NOT be good for the future of Russia.

Boris Jeltsin sure was.
The drunk brought Russia to the edge of total collapse.

Putin is regarded as a man with the best intent for his folk.

Of course you and many Americans do not like that prospective. The only prospective you like is one where Russia is on its knees and kissing the @$$ of the US. :)

Don't let Putin back in! Keep the old, anti-American, ex-KGB guy out. I was over in Russia and people said that he controls most of the TV stations and runs anti-American junk on it all the time. He refused to televise Obama's speech to the college kids over there. Medvedev is younger, more flexible, better to lead their people forward.
We should be allies with Russia, not slip back into cold war BS.
Hold on, Medvedev!

There will be no Cold War with Russia in the nearest future since this country is not a super power anymore. But you are wrong on Medvedev -- he is just a puppet in the hands of Putin.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:38 AM on 09/13/2009

Tovarish.
He is not a puppet, he is just serving a political internship and being prepared for future long term leadership. A very Russian tradition.
Dmitry happens to be a financial wizard and needs to hone his political accumen under the wise and knowledgeable tutelage of Vladimir Illych. There is no better teacher he could have gotten.
He is loved like a son.

Besides, we have everything we need in our warehouse ( Siberia ).

Neocons must be rejoicing the return of Bush's soulmate Putin. I mean, who out of the whole world is as similar to Bush if not Putin, well, or Kim Jung Il on a good day. Putin and his Russian neocons will be a serious threat to the USA and freedom worldwide, just as Bush/Cheney were, are. If you don't believe me about neocons worshipping Putin, just ask them, who would they rather have as POTUS between Putin and Obama. Every single neocon I have asked proudly exclaimed PUTIN, PUTIN PUTIN FOR POTUS.

How many have you asked? 10?
All neocons I have spoken to hate Putin. Or in fact. They just hate Russia, no matter who is behind the steering wheel.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:16 PM on 09/12/2009

They do not hate Putin when given a choice between Putin or Obama for POTUS. Ask any neocon between the two who they would rather have as president, and you will see I am 100% correct.

Vladimir Illych will run again because the majority of our people love and want him to stay, just like the majority of your people love Obama.
When you have a good one, why send him away ?; you would have been better off if Bill Clinton could have stayed a few more years, don't you agree ?
Legal Charters such as Constitutions, etc. should evolve and be looked at everey once in a while to make sure they are working properly for the times on behalf of the people.

Interesting

Russia today reported that Putin said "Did I run against him before ? no so why would I run against him now"

That could still mean I won't run against him because we will make a deal

Russia a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma

Putin is very dangerous as we see it, but he is doing what we would be doing in his place.

In a way it's the ultimate form of Capitalism as countries try to become the most powerful. Survival of the fittest. In that kind of environment everything Putin does is a natural progession
