Obama Protests

First Posted: 11/12/09 05:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 03:05 PM ET

Conservative protesters are marching on Washington D.C. today against President Obama's policies, most notably his proposed reform of America's health care system.

#912dc has been a top trending topic throughout the day. The protests are taking place on 9/12 as part of a continuing series of "Tea Party" protests and promoted by Glenn Beck's 9/12 Project.

FOX News has been streaming the protest live on their website. Among the signs seen at the protest:

  • He Had A Dream, We Got A Nightmare (featuring a photo of Martin Luther King, Jr.)
  • I Didn't Vote For This Obamanation
  • This Is A Christian Nation
  • You Lie
  • January 20, 2009: The Beginning Of An Error
  • Thank You Glenn Beck
  • Term Limits Now
  • No More Commies In The White House
  • Don't Blame Me, I Voted For Sarah
  • Bury Obamacare With Kennedy
  • We have woken up to your evil plan to destroy our country. Take your racist un-American Acorn groups and arrogent wife back to your own country and strip their rights away.

News organizations are estimating attendance at the march to be anywhere from several thousand to two million. Several counter-protests in support of President Obama are also planned. What impact will these protests have on the White House's continuing push for health care reform?

I just dont get it,, Its tough living in a world where reason is so lost from anger and ignorance, Im always thinking what can I do to convince people that Healthcare by priavte or government is good. I think what can I do? and then morons on the conservative spectrum drown out any sensible arguemnt I can make. Why cant peopl e listen instead of reacting like monkeys in a cage. We are all goin to get sick and we are all goin to die, its common knowledge . The system now is broken, Private insurers over capitalized on healthcare and took the power from the doctors. As far as Im concerned the gov has not done enough and I do believe in a public option while working with doctors to ensure a person who has a predetermined illness will be covered by gov or private health plan. As Im concerned the more options the better. If we leave it to private insurance I swear the whole advance in medical care will be erodied and people will die..... needlessly..

In talkin' with Jim:
Glenn's outragous statements make him question the one's that he finds rational.
But I told him:
Most people think his rational statements make his outragous statements seem rational.

I have to wonder if these people realize that they are a minority and the majority of Americans voted for Obama and he is the president like it or not for at least the next 3.5 years. Sorry but you guys do not represent the will of the people only a narrow slice, no matter how closely the media covers every lie you say.

in the age of the internet, why is it so difficult for those tea protesters to get the right information instead of regurgitating the Glen McBleckarthy lies?

Alas, it is as easy today to get bad information as good information. To tell the difference requires an open mind, equal-opportunity skepticism and a desire to understand the truth, even when it is complicated.
