Washington Post:

For years the NFL, which kicks off its regular season in full on Sunday, has been the most lucrative sports league in the world, generating an estimated $8 billion a year in revenue. But as technology improved, making it possible for American sports to be seen in more and more countries, the NFL has found itself in a dilemma, staring longingly at blossoming international markets yet with a game few outside of this country understand.

I bet that will go over about as well as it did in Australia when they tried it around 15 years back. It was a flop before it even started. American football is just boring to other countries. And thats saying something because they love golf and cricket. Two the the most boring games in the world, only succeed by grid iron football in the rest of the world. The rest of the world has what we call soccer and rugby which make grid iron look lame even on grid irons best days.

I'm tired of this. Focus on the game at home, not overseas. The NFL, NBA and whatnot think China is some gold mine, and they are determined to get into it. If these people don't culturally like it, why spend so much time trying to shove it down their throats? It's just greed...

I'm getting tired of Obama doing nothing. He promised us Wall street reform, Heathcare reform, and more jobs and we got NOTHING except more debt.

hat tip to http://www.iamned.com

the economy is rigged against middle class, anyway

I love the idea of reality shows like this. There was a reality show last year based around an international search for baseball talent. The two Indian players who came out on top eventually were signed by (I believe) the Pittsburgh Pirates.

That all being said... is China really the best place for this? Wouldn't it be better to make it an international search?

China was denoted by the story about the boy who studied eight hours AFTER school was over.

When will the NFL bring the chinese over to be trained by the the NFL players so the NFL can fire the American NFL players later and move the team to China? That's what all the formerly american manufacturing companies have done here under the guise of the h1b visa program

If it makes North America any more popular, then go for it.

The Chinese are too smart to fall for this. Professional sports would make no profit at all if not for US government subsidies.

According to David Kay Johnston, major sports franchises (monopolies) derive 100 percent of their profit from government subsidies. Watch Bill Moy ers interview:

Yeah, in the NHL various parties are fighting in Phoenix bankruptcy court for the Coyotes (and the subsidies they can get)

That is a good question.

A buddy of mine sells fans. They got some fans made in China, he said they where made very cheaply compared to the same fan made in Taiwan. He could tell the difference just by looking at the fans.

I guess they have crap for quality control. I know the doc. I watched on Walmart said that the working making crap for Walmart make about 5 bucks a week.

Never happen.

The NFL is only popular in North America. It is one of if not the worst spectator sports out there. It's like watching hundreds of commercials interrupted by a football game. However, they are always preceded by a tailgate party if you attend a live game.

Americans love it, then again NASCAR is popular and they can only turn left ... so go figure.
