I Like ItI Don’t Like It

During a Phillies game on Tuesday, outfielder Jayson Werth's shot into the upper bleachers was caught by an overjoyed dad.

After celebrating his catch with fellow fans, the dad handed the trophy ball to his young daughter, who promptly tossed it away.

The person who came up with the headline didn't watch the clip. The dad wasn't heartbroken at all.

Sweet.

When have the headlines here ever been anything but sensationalized? Not since I've been a reader. Thankfully the amount of good content I get here generally outweighs it, but some days I find it hard to swallow.

Good for her. She was able to see this caught object for what it was, just a ball.

Thanks Major League Baseball lawyers/execs for asserting your copyright and keeping us from sharing that charming father/daughter video at the Phillies game. Don't worry that we taxpayers subsidize virtually every stadium with major tax credits ...and $7 sodas. We don't deserve to watch this for free. I guess we will just replay the boorish Kanye/Serena/Joe Wilson videos.

HP - he was not heartbroken -- he was loving and forgiving - at least what I can remember of it...

You are right. The local news has been running the video on all the broadcasts and they had him and his daughter being interviewed at home, playing baseball. So cute! He wasn't heartbroken and you can tell he absolutely adores this little girl. It is clear that his daughter is far more important than a baseball.

He did get another baseball and if I know the Phillies team and management, he and his daughter will get other fun things. Wouldn't it be cute if the Phanatic - the BEST mascot in baseball - invited them to a game and then took her on the field to throw out the first pitch!

So cute little girl, a truly loving father and a lousy MLB that won't share their story with people everywhere - the tag line for this story!

Booooooooooo! MLB. Ridiculous that you took the vid down. Your PR people are idots not to understand the backlash. Just should have kept it up and asserted any copyright rights you needed to, as the situation arose. Really stupid.

Thanks Major League Baseball for enforcing copyrights for harmless videos, but not enforcing drug testing. This is Exhibit A of why I don't go to games anymore.

If baseball were such a family game they would have given the ball back, being that the original catcher didn't throw it himself, but handed it to his child, so she would be proud of Pa Pa . And because she saw the players throwing it, she did the same thing.

Because she is a child who didn't need to know the rules of baseball fanatics. But should be allowed to make mistakes because not allowing her to make mistakes goes against family values. I don t know. I am a gay man with no kids. How about a replacement ball signed by the players? Now that' s family values.

OMG wait till women find out about this, your man-rules are gonna have to change, making little girls look bad!!!

It was the real glory of the game right there in front of you, a father hugging his little girl to assure her that she did nothing wrong, a public rite of passage to which so many parents can relate. And that is why the highlight is one of the hottest videos on MLB.com right now, and why the whole family will be on NBC's Today Show, where they will be presented with a surprise gift on Thursday morning.

I saw a clip today, I would have thought a player, manager, or at least a media guy would have noticed and given her a ball.
