Last time I checked, my doctor, dentist, chiropractor, and attorney all went to public school.

There use to be a saying. Tell me the average income of the parents in your school and I'll tell you about your school.
Schools are a reflection of the neighborhoods and the parents, not of public education.
Its just a shame that schools are so underfunded that teachers have to often pay for supplies out of their own pockets.

So typical, blame the educator.
The teens could have refused the liquor & pot.

The girls weren't teens when this all started. The "educator" was arrested again on Thursday for harassing one of her victims. She also used a victim's name in a radio interview in which she proclaimed her innocence even though the police have a signed confession. Prior to this the other students were only speculating, now they had a name and knew exactly who it was. This is an educator?
Yes, the KIDS could have refused, but she was the adult AND a teacher. It should never have been offered.

The American education system is fine....if you can afford a private, live in an affluent area with excellent public school system or have access to successful charter schools. Also, public schools in poor or impoverished districts that have good administrators, competent, caring teachers, involved parents and studious students succeed as well.

reluctantcougar,
I wish I could believe you.The majority of people cannot afford a private school, have access to charter schools which I am suspect of, nor live in an affluent area. I taught science and math in the public system for close to 20 years and left primarily because schools were diminishing their academic standards to raise a student's self-esteem, whatever that means. If you look at where we stand academically compared to the rest of the world, I believe your eyes would be opened...meanwhile, if you are a parent or educator, keep the standards high...don't give up...we can regain our prominence as a well-educated nation.

Nimrod. I know of teachers who pay students to housesit or petsit when out of town. Maybe even get assistance with moving something or working on a car or some kind of volunteer work, happens all the time. But to think you can get away, for any extended time, supplying illicit materials to teenagers is idiotic.

I have seen a lot of complaints on HuffPo about headlines, some of them pretty outrageous. This is the very first time I've seen it have any effect. At least the CYA is working...

Seems the headline writer forgot the word "allegedly." Nothing's been proven and no admission made.
