Politics Daily:

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama host their first international reception for world leaders later this month, in connection with the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Politics Daily has learned that Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has not been invited because of the hero's welcome Gaddafi gave the convicted Pan Am Lockerbie bomber when he returned home to Libya after being released from a Scottish prison. The Obama reception will be Sept. 23 in New York, as the president makes his first visit to the United Nations General Assembly and spends several days at the UN.

I think the roll of Gaddafi is now being played by Stuart Margolin, "Angel" in the Rockford Files.

Just excuses. If it weren't for the "hero's welcome' it would have been something else.

Barack doesn't need to make any excuse to snub Gaddafi.

Is there any proof that it was a planned "hero's welcome"?
From the videos I have seen of his welcome it didn't look like an awful lot of people were at the airport.

Could have been friends and family being happy to see him home.

From everything I've read there is resonable doubt of Al-Megrahi's guilt and I rather have a guilty person go free because of lack of proof than an innocent person put in prison.

Don't tell me: Western leaders, or what passes for such, are the only ones with a divine right to snub others, right? And when it's perceived to have happened it MUST be reported as a matter of public information and necessity.

Dr. Stanley---Western leaders have the obligation to "snub" mass murderers. OK?

Gaddafi basically snubbed the U.S. by giving the Lockerbie bomber a hero's welcome. He deserves to be snubbed.

Not inviting Gaddafi was a major blunder!!
Regardless of what happened at the Libyan airport, the Colonel is, after all, the head of government in Libya and a reception hosted by the head of government of the USA should not be excluding him. If they were to exclude individuals based on their "snubbable" behavior, Barack and Michelle would be sitting there all alone!! Obama is supposed to be interested in building bridges and the congenial atmosphere of the annual UN opening is an ideal opportunity to put aside all else and "play nice." To ostracize the Colonel gives our world critics ammunition to use against us that they needn't have had. Bad move!

The president had no diplomatic choice. The situation is clear: the water is muddy.

This is how yu do things.

Quietly and subtly.

You don't need to go calling people names, making up axis of evil, and insulting entire regions of the world.

We have an intelligent and capable President and Secretary of State. Who know how to do their jobs.

Finally. After 8 years of gratuitous stupidity.

I can understand Scottish decision to release the Lockerbie bomber based on compassionate reasons. I don't however support Libya's and Gaddafi's "hero's welcome" of this man.

So I say good for you Mr President. Well done.

The identity of the Lockerbie bomber remains a mystery. The man who was recently released after serving time for that crime was railroaded.

Regardless, Obama's snub is a petty, undiplomatic act.

Bush made nice with this terrorist all while warning about the dangers. Palin will be tweeting now about how rude Obama is not to pal around with the GOP approved terrorist leaders.

Oh so true, everyone is so eager to point out people's mistakes. I for one also like to let folks know I'm also paying attention when they do what is right and/or good.
Right on President Obama, good move. Diplomacy in motion.

No big deal here, Gadaffi, who has held supreme power for 40 years and murdered thousands of own people to stay in power like most Arab dictators do is but one of many despots that will show up at the reception. I am sure Mubarak will be there, maybe Assad, possibly Hugo not to mention the prime minister of China and some members of the "Royal Family of Saudi Arabia." Maybe they can get together and pass a human rights resolution against Israel while they have tea. Maybe good old Kofi Annan will join in the meeting for old time sakes. Sorry to sound so cynical but the UN has facilitated so much death and destruction over the last 40 years that I am sick of the organization and the dictatorships that make up its membership.
