Susan Boyle

She wasn't even a competitor on the show, but Susan Boyle arguably stole the finale of "America's Got Talent" Wednesday night when she made her US television singing debut. Boyle sang a version of the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses" and spoke briefly of her hospitalization.

Boyle told cameras in a piece that aired before her song that, "I've never felt so tired. I look back at it now and it was a necessity because I was tired," but she's upbeat now. "I used to be a spectator looking out at the world, but now I'm part of that world."

The Scottish singer became a YouTube sensation after an appearance earlier this year on "Britain's Got Talent," on which she sang "I Dreamed a Dream"

Her album is in stores November 24.

Steamboater, I to am a musician singer/guitarist, My wife teaches, viola, violin, piano and flute and plays for one of canadas best orchestras. She has played with, Harry belafonte, paul simon and many many others. Notched it up and still a 2nd rate rendition. Only a 2nd rate musician or music critic wannabe would write such nonsense. So lets put the record straight. Scour the internet from music and media critics around the world , It has been praised as a fantastic version by over 90% of them. On rolling stone online in a forum that asked what is the greatest version of wild horses the current standing is: susan boyle 271 the rest 49. On virgin the standing was 96% to 4% in her favour. The interpretation of any song in any era was could a song be defined in a way to move people to the point that the song itself takes on a new meaning. Lyrics have and always will be interpreted by a specific singer and what parts of there life are specific to that particular song and not by the writer. That is why some sing the same song and one can move you and the other can be moved to the trash can. Two people can have identical voices but the winner will be the one whose version can move mountains never mind people. And according to 90% of the world susan boyles version is in that category.

I think those who do not get it about susan boyle are entitled to there views, We are not forcing them to like her but this is the point they miss for the 200 million that do like her, Are there other great women singers around, Absolutely, But how how singers in any era never mind this era can break someones heart with every song and at the same time make them smile wishing her happiness. For instance those who saw shakira on the same show, Lipsynching and doing her , i am in the circus act,Under no circumstances could say that woman has talent. If you cannot perform live keep away from any audience. And on at least 3 forums , Susan boyles version of wild horses has been voted the best of all time. And for anyone who types in that the show was prerecorded the day before, Yes it was. It does not alter the fact that susan boyle sang to a live audience and sang the song live.Is she a good singer, No she is an oustanding singer by anyones definition. You do not get a number 1 cd 10 weks before it's release date based on sympathy alone. And if you look at the totally talentless guy that won AGT. I would bet my life there are 100s of american singers who would wipe the floor with him.

Great post. I love Dottie West for all of the reasons you stated to love Susan Boyle. Something in that voice that evoked a lonely tenderness, you felt what she was feeling when you listened to her. Very few artists have that ability to really interpret a lyric that they did not write, and make it their own.

Why dont they have a show that older americans can compete in. Just like Dancing with the stars, the older movie stars(Cloris Leechman for one) cant compete with 16 yr olds and thier tv fans and the same with singing shows like American Idol, they cant even get on the show if they are over 30. Theres alot of untapped talent out there thats just waiting for a venue for them. Susan is a testement to that.

Perfect choice of songs. This is my favorite of her choices so far. I really like her feisty, silly personality. Seems like she is trying to control it a bit so the tabloids don't come after her or perhaps the lovely evening gown is inspiring her to act more refined. What ever this song is so hauntingly beautiful.

Must be several songs called "Wild Horses". The one I remember was a much racier version from the 80s by Gino Vannelli.

Susan Boyle has a lovely voice and she "sells" the song. Good for her. I hope she goes far.

The Stones song is on Sticky Fingers. She's to be commended for doing such a classic.

Great song. Nice interpretation, too, although not very different from Harriet Wheeler's (The Sundays) many years ago.

How does one with so little professional experience so quickly develop such professional composure and grace on stage? Let alone her amazing voice . . . what an impressive person she is. I love her story.

She warms my heart every time I hear her sing. I don't think the song was particularly wrong for her; I just don't care for that song. Someone suggested she should sing Climb Every Mountain from Sound of Music. I would love to hear her sing that sometime.

She has a lovely voice - this is not her best song selection.

She doesn't have to scream, or incorporate voice "antics"...she is just a darn good singer.

Susan Boyle sang a stunning rendition of the Stones "Wild Horses". No foolish trills and ugly acrobatic signing like so many wannbes .If she hangs in there and keeps her innocence and feshness, she'll be a huge star.

I think I've got it: her sound is like a lost little girl trying to survive in this big ugly world...she does have a 'young' sound...not young as in, 'American Idol typical contest', but young in its innocence (then she lifts up her skirt and forget it!...she's funny too..)...but her sound does not match her looks

it's fascinating to watch and hear...and it can't help but to 'touch' your heart

good for her...let's stop hating (haters!)...dunno why people seem to get a kick out of saying negative things (i'm guilty as well)...so much envy, true envy going on

ANYONE, ANYONE would rather be up there singing on that stage instead of writing in this BLOG!

'go Susan'
