Taxi Fuel Surcharge Expiring At Midnight

The on-again, off-again taxi fuel surcharge is expiring yet again at midnight, the city's Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection announced Wednesday.

The surcharge takes effect whenever gas prices rise above $2.70 a gallon for seven consecutive days, as measured by AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report, and it goes away when gas prices fall below $2.70 a gallon for seven straight days.

Wednesday marks the seventh day in a row that prices in the Chicago Metropolitan Statistical Area have fallen below the threshold, so the surcharge expires at midnight.
