Mother Jones:

Remember Jamie Leigh Jones, the Halliburton/KBR contractor who alleged she was gang raped by her co-workers in Iraq and then imprisoned in a shipping container after she reported the attack to the company? Well, it looks like she's finally get to sue the company, in a real courthouse, over her ordeal.

Having the court decision that her rape was not work related allows her to file suit against the company and those individuals. If she can't get them criminally convicted, at least she can sue them for everything they have and drag them to court and the media attention. Also, she can sue for millions of dollars from Haliburton.
It's a very good decision for her. I wonder if she will follow through or will Haliburton throw her some money to make it go away and keep quiet.
Should be interesting, and I wish her success.

What about the criminal charges for these rapists?

Crime should be adjudicated -- not arbitrated by company-paid shills.

I bet it's really difficult to feel safe or fairly treated in the legal system when the former Vice President is a Halliburton puppet.

I have been following this case from the first I heard of Ms. Jones.

Justice has yet to be served.

Binding arbitration required by an employer or company is always, always, always loaded in favor of the defendant.

I have no idea of what is right in this case, who is right. But she deserves much more than what she got.

A court rules that Jamie Leigh Jones' brutal gang rape at the hands of Halliburton employees is not a "workplace injury."

Can we send the judges in question a copy of Susan Brownmiller's "Against Our Will: Men, Women and Rape" to remind them as to how despicably insidious the crime of sexual assault really is.

Jamie, you deserve far, far better than this. What the court did was throw salt on your raw, festering wounds. And in my opinion, the judge in this case was no better than those who forced themselves on you against your will.

I thing you might want to read the article again ... by ruling that the rape was not a "workplace industry", Ms. Jones' case may not be heard in a court of law and not in an arbitration hearing.
Much better for Ms. Jones to go to court than let arbitrators decide her case.

I hope she wins. But she needs to be safe.

So, where's the conservative outrage on this one? Shouldn't they be taking to the streets?

I wish her all the best and hope she stays safe. She's treading in dangerous waters -- going against a powerful, politically connected company.

As far as binding arbitration, I hope this case does help to eliminate it from service, product, and employment contracts.

If she tries to get (or use ) Health Insurance they will call it a pre-existing condition. "A workplace inury" whoever claimed that needs to have a dose of what she got and see how they feel about it then.

Madness, just madness.

I just hate it when I'm at work, minding my own business, and then I trip and fall onto a bunch of hard ****s.

They oughta put Cheney on the stand to testify to his Business practices that instigated this criminal hate behavior towards women from HIS company.
Considering he was still drawing compensation from them after he got into office, and handed them huge contracts no bid. Its amazing that he had complete motivation to start a war that lasted for ever, with no meaningful goal in sight, and that only his company could profit from our tax money with.

Give her the whole company including Cheney's shares.

I hope she sues them and gets heaps of money, but don't forget that Dickless Cheney still pulls a lot of strings.

On a semi-related note, I find it fascinating how all the righties have gotten their panties twisted all up over ACORN and yet few if any of them - as far as I can see - were ever bothered by the amount of money that Haliburton and KBR stole from our country.

Well, its all were you place on the Gaft-O-Meter. The more grease the less squeak. Haliburton and KBR plenty of grease. ACORN, not so much.
