MoveOn.org has brought back its "Red Handed" ads from the 2006 election to target vulnerable Republicans who have voted against health care reform.

The ads, released by MoveOn.org Political Action, will run in the districts of Republican Reps. Patrick Tiberi (R-OH) and Dave Reichert (R-WA) starting Thursday.

Tiberi and Reichert both serve on the House Ways and Means Committee and voted against reform in committee.

"While millions of Americans suffer, there are Republicans who are willing to base their votes on their relationship to the insurance industry and not on what is best for their constituents," stated Justin Ruben, Executive Director of MoveOn. "These ads send a powerful reminder that when it came time to choose between voting for health care reform that would lower costs and expand health care coverage or doing the bidding of their special interest donors, they chose the special interests."

When used in 2006 against Rep. Thelma Drake (R-Va.), the ad was called "brutally effective" by the New York Times. "MoveOn ads targeting the members of Congress, Pryce, Chocola, Drake and Nancy Johnson have effectively made the case that there is a close relationship between the contributions they collect and the votes they take in Congress," Rahm Emanuel, then head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said at the time. "These ads have clearly made second-tier races into first-tier contests."

Watch the Tiberi ad:

The real question: Why is MoveOn carrying water for health insurance companies?

The 'reform' MoveOn supports would deliver more customers to healthcos via mandates, give them $1 trillion of subsidies directly from the public till, and introduce barriers to medical loss prevention that will allow them to increase insurance prices yet further. No wonder Harry and Louise are all for it, and Wall Street greeted Obama's speech with a sharp rise in healthco stock prices.

The 'public option' has already been stifled in its crib by the healthcos, who know they have nothing to fear from it. The constant din about it from MoveOn, Obama, Howard Dean and others therefore only serves the interests of the healthcos, by distracting attention from what they truly do fear: single-payer Medicare For All, HR 676.

Medicare For All is no more 'politically impossible' than the illusory 'robust public option'.

And contrary to the canard spread by Dean and Obama, single payer supporters are not a small fringe group on the left - they are a majority of voters and physicians. The US Conference of Mayors - hardly a fringe group - voted unanimoulsy last year to support single-payer HR 676.

So what exactly is MoveOn up to? Why is it supporting the healthcos?

The public option isn't dead. MoveOn isn't supporting the "healthcos". You are pretty confused.

I get it, his hand is red. Oh, that's just brilliant. Meanwhile the right has the best firms in advertising working for them.

At least Move-on tells the truth... And, the Right has the donation from the insurance industry to pay the high priced Ad Firms... Move-on has the people. Big differences in message and funding.

You are right of course. One problem though. Congress is the ones that would vote for term limits. Do you really think that this is going to happen?

Term limits is an undemocratic, obselete idea. It reminds me of the guy who burned down his house to get rid of the termites in his wall.

They need to run these kind of ads against the blue dog Democrats more than they need to run them against Republics. That's where our problems lie.

Not really, they need to run these in places they will make the most difference. I want the Blue Dogs gone as well, but since they mostly come from ultra conservative districts if they get put out a Republican will most likely take the seat and then the vote will be the same.

I agree wholeheartedly! Unfortunately the only term limits available now is when we vote the "rascals" out. And this one has to go!

i'm sure this administration will figure out a way to move the money previously designated for ACORN to another non-partisan outfit like moveon or npr

That would be an awesome idea. NPR is brilliant but then again the repugs don't understand that level of intelligence. They'd rather have My Pet Goat read to them on cassette tapes, than listen to anything that stimulates the brain.

Actually, ACORN receives grant money, which is being reviewed.

If you want to support either NRP or MoveOn, do so.

NPR is pretty darned non-partisan. Move-On isn't partisan, it's blatantly liberal. They hates plenty of righty dems. The problem is the truth usually casts a nasty light on the right because they are on the wrong side of the interests of the middle and lower-class American public. So... row row row your boat gently back to Politc.o.com.

I'm still excited by the Moveon "General "Betrayus" ad.

There's nothing worse than a patriot General advancing American interests around the world.

I'm still angry about winning the Iraq war. Good thing we are now giving the country back to Iran and al Qaeda!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:57 AM on 09/18/2009

Wow, going back to that one, huh?

We "won" the Iraqi war? No, we spent $2 trillion to create a weak vassal state for Iran. Congratulations, though, on your gullibility.

There is no compassion, no sensitivity and complete detachment from the people they are supposed to represent. They only represent themselves and big global business. They are deceiving democracy to get what they want. Thank you MoveOn for getting active to dethrone these parasites that are destroying our country.

The USA does not even rank within the top 25 countries in the world for education!

We were warned:

Australians warned us not to allow Rupert Murdoch to infiltrate our free press standards

England warned us not to allow Rupert Murdoch to infiltrate our free press standards

Sir Richard Branson said something like "if we let him, Murdoch will destroy democracy".

We ignored Australia and England- look at the dumb down we got!
