I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Dana Rohrabacher

The Nation:

The House Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight met today to discuss issues of sovereignty and stability in Iraq ranging from the country's longstanding financial obligation to neighboring Kuwait to its even longer-standing issues with the Kurdish people. But Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) seemed mostly interested in berating the Iraqis for their lack of gratitude.

Its not that great a leap from "we will be greeted as liberators" to "we should have been greeted as liberators."

Of course, this is the same Rohrabacher who once proclaimed (pre-9/11) that "the Taliban are a good stabilizing force in the region" and who has ties to a defense contractor who himself has a relationship with the Chinese Red Army. He makes Glenn Beck almost seem lucid.

I did notice that he crossed over and voted to censure Wilson.

Another Republican hypocrite who will send tens of thousands of American military to kill tens of thousands Iraqi innocents when he himself refused to go to Vietnam. He has had the courage to visit it several times since. What a guy!

The Iraqis "hate" us because we've decimated their country. The Republicans hate because they are afraid.

Talk about looking like a fool. He also probably thought that TBN would be broadcasting from Iraq and showing all the new Christian converts worshiping Bush as the second coming.

"But Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) seemed mostly interested in berating the Iraqis for their lack of gratitude." Let me get this right. The country that we invaded, bombed and occupied should be grateful? Tens of thousand of Iraqis have been killed and wounded in this war and occupation. The infrastructure has been destroyed or badly damaged so much that they have no medical care, no electricity, no sewage treatment and bad water to drink. They should be grateful for all that we have given them.

You are so right...but Rohrabacher's attitude is shared by most in his party. That is the shame of it. The concept of "we will be greeted with flowers" has now progressed to they should be grateful. The arrogance continues. "They should be more grateful" translated means: 1. aren't we wonderful? 2. we saved you, don't you want to be just like us? 3. we are perfect and know what is best for you. And finally.. 4. We'll make you "free" even if it kills you.

For invading and destroying their country with bombs and artillery fire, causing out migration and relocation internally of millions, for the death and wounding of hundreds of thousands, they thank the USA profoundly. My bad.

Rohrabacher is a Republican - why expect truth? He needed his picture in the news - his 'time' must be near.

The little girl at the bottom of this post is very grateful, as is no doubt her family, Mr. Rohrabacher:

What is it? The week of Repub's putting their foot in it?

Not one of the Iraqis ASKED for American involvement and as much as I deplore the death of the brave men and women who have given their lives to this, this is an illegal war. How dare he ask for gratitude! Does he want to say that to the 1000's of Iraqi families who have lost INNOCENT loved ones since the invasion?

YES Saddam was a bad man, but lets not forget that up until Iraq War 1 and you'll see he was supported by the US EVEN when he was gassing his own people.

Saddam's regime, as sad as it is to say this, kept the factions and tribes at bay from one another and no other countries dared set up shop in there as they have now - I'm talking about those that are supplying the insurgents now - Iran etc.

Gratitude for an illegal war, innocent deaths and let not forget over 4,000 men and women who died for this country for someone's skewed lies - and as was pointed out at the end of that article - the reason to go to Iraq was so called WMD's - it was only when that dog didn't hunt anymore that the line was changed to 'freeing the people of Iraq'.

Be more grateful? For what? for an unnecessary war engineered by BuchCO? For the destruction and displacement of the Iraqi middle class, for 500K+/- in deaths wrought on them for no reason whatsoever? For Abu Ghraib, torture, rendition and the rise of al Qaeda in Iraq? Yeah right . Another republican with no sense of ethics and or morality and justice.
