Lisa Ling To Return To "The View" As Guest-Host

09/17/09 04:58 PM ET   AP

Lisa Ling

NEW YORK — Lisa Ling, a former co-host of "The View," will be back as a guest co-host for two days next month.

ABC said Thursday that Ling will sit alongside Barbara Walters, Joy Behar (BAY'-hahr), Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd for the Oct. 5 and 6 broadcasts of the weekday talk show.

She'll sub for regular co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who's on maternity leave until mid-October.

Ling left "The View" in 2002 after three years as a regular. She's now a correspondent for "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and CNN. She returned as a guest co-host in 2003 and made three guest appearances in 2008.

Her sister, Laura Ling, was one of two journalists detained and released in August by North Korea.

I've not watched The View since Hasselbeck joined, but I'd reconsider taking it up again if Ling were brought on permantly. (I *love* Whoopi Goldberg!! I don't always agree with her, but there's definitely a light in the attick, and then some. :o)

Let Hasselbeck stay home and play mother and let Lisa Ling do a permanent replacement !!!

Ling is too good for "The View"

Hopefully Lisa Ling's return to The View isn't an infomercial declaring her sister as some type of heroine for getting caught disobeying North Korean laws and endangering other people's lives due to her recklessness to advance her career.

The name is spelled "Elisabeth." If you are going to diss someone, at least diss her right!

Elisabeth has shown her ignorance frequently, but she has made an attempt to temper it recently. I think Whoopi has ignited her burgeoning awareness of needy people, and the policies that are necessary to serve those people.

You've just confirmed to ABC that their "imaging" efforts, disingenuous as they may be, are working . . . at least on you. Elisabeth has no more of a "burgeoning awareness" than R u s h, H a n n i t y, and all of the other bu ff oo ns she chooses to parrot. Liz has shown her true colors on more than one occasion, one of which prompted Barbara to ask her to send a formal letter of apology to First Lady Obama.

Elisabeth, and the producers as well, knows she is not well-received by the viewing public which, to a certain extent, keeps the ratings going. But I imagine that when viewer after viewer -- or rather, FORMER viewer after FORMER viewer -- is sending e-mails and complaints informing producers that they will no longer be watching, well, common sense says, "Rein her in !!" "Soften her image !!" "Play up the softer side of Elisabeth." And THAT, my dear, is the ONLY reason you see what appears to be a more tempered Elisabeth.

you know IHTBS, i left to replies, and the one i made to you was scrubbed..wonder why...
agree with you though-
elisabeth tries to cover her racsim with some excuse like patriotism, but we all know the deal..i actually liked that rosie at least gave it right back to her...

Starr Jones was the only one with a graduate degree, lady like, etc. but spent too much money on her wedding, white folks dont like to see black people spend money..they let us have Oprah, and that's all..( for the record i like Oprah and Starr )....

It's going to be good to see Lisa Ling again....It will also be great to finally have Elizabeth Hasselbeck back in October.

Lately the View has been pretty one sided and almost boring.......there were times when it looked like they were going to start singing KUMBAYA.....

Sorry to hear Elizabeth is coming back mid - October. Why so soon? I guess with the recession and no one writing in missing her except for the teabaggers - she better come back quickly and keep her job.

Its always a vacation when she's not there. I don't mean to be mean but she's like the acne on the View - you just have to live through it.

For the last 2 yrs, The View is the best it has ever been!!! Whoopi and Sherri both bring something individually different and there's so much genuine rapport between them and Joy. I love the cameraderie between Barb and Sherrie too; they are too funny.

Sherri has matures and is learning a lot on the show too. Whoopi's commentary is just great. I don't agree with everything she has to say but her opinions are thru experience, maturity and are tempered. I plan to watch Joy's new show because I like her on The View too.

Hmmm. . . is there someone missing from your commentary?

Who could it be?

Oh well, maybe it will come to me later.

Missing in your commentary is Elizabeth Hasselbeck. I like The View without Elizabeth.

There is a circle of women respecting one another - disagreeing but respectful without all the political FOX News commercials coming straight from Hannity.
07:28 AM on 09/19/2009
Disagree??? Come on guys let's be honest.....it's been pretty one sided lately.....boring!!!

I enjoy it much better when Elisabeth is there......thats when the sparks fly and we actually hear both sides of an issue.

This Hasselbeck has a big chip and wonder who placed it there !!

Bad move by the "viewmeister." Bringing Lisa's class, intelligence and professionalism back to that table will only serve to further spotlight the hot steaming pile of tabloid crapfest this show has become since she left.

I'm surprised she agreed to do it. I watched when she went back as a guest not too long ago and the segment was beyond awkward, Hasselbeck, who is just the worst interviewer ever in the best of circumstances, was clearly threatened.

I haven't even missed EH since she's been gone. They can bring on Meghan McCain. I enjoy her mature, fresh Republican views.

Glad to hear Elizabeth will be out until mid-October.

But I don't want Ling back either.

On second thought, it doesn't matter to me. I don't like this show.

Agree with all the comments.

There is no room for anything other than insane liberalism on The View.

We need Elizabeth out of there!

To read her daily list of Repugnant talking points?

NOT!!!

Even Kate G has more to offer (can't believe I said that!!!)

Let Elisabeth stay home with her brood

Most of us have no problem with a well thought out conservative point of view, but Elisabeth is sorely lacking in that department. She is shrill, ignorant and defensive. She knows nothing that she didn't learn from Fox news, and when faced with facts, she flies off the handle and starts crying. How about putting Kathleen Parker or Elizabeth Dole on. Then there would at least be intelligent discussion.

Hey,

I agree that Elisabeth has an uninformed and distorted view of the world, and, perhaps, the universe. Who would ever look to Elisabeth for leadership, anyway?
11:55 AM on 09/19/2009
Stage-

I say we put you in charge of which conservatives are acceptable and which aren't.

Your comment highlights the mindset of the perfect liberal: one who is so much smarter than the opposition he has the right to pick their spokesmen! (sorry - spokes-person).
04:13 PM on 09/18/2009
Bring Lisa Ling back and get rid of Hassleback
07:44 PM on 09/18/2009
No, I think having a conservative viewpoint is needed on The View. However, it should be from someone who doesn't call up Hannity for notes. I've seen some better Republican guests on TV than Lizzy.

I agree there should be a conservative view, plus liberal to round it off, but Elisabeth isn't it.
She gets her talking points directly from Fox each morning-is not very smart.

There are several good conservatives that would be good.

Kate did a great job this week. Letoya was horrible. Someone needs to tell Letoya it is 2009 and she needs a new hair style. She is weighing her face down with the weave.

if Lisa would replace Elizabeth, ... i start looking at the View again...
02:32 PM on 09/18/2009
Oh, great news. Only wish she was back at the View permenantly and that Eliz. Hasselback would leave. It was nice having a smart, intelligent woman as Lisa among us. This was the main reason for leaving the View.
02:08 PM on 09/18/2009
I"m suprised she's doing this.
I gave her high marks for leaving and doing some real work.
Still like her though
