Bill Clinton

USA Today:

The call from the White House usually would come in late afternoon. President Clinton had a few hours open in the evening. Could he come over?

Taylor Branch, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and civil rights historian, would pick up a notepad of questions and two microcassette recorders and drive his truck down Interstate 95 to Washington. Parking on the South Lawn, he would head to the White House family quarters for interviews so secret Clinton stored the tapes of them in his sock drawer.

"Clinton told Branch. Arizona Sen. John McCain "might make a good president, but he had no idea how to run.""

Wow, DLC DINO dems!

"The model on which the Democratic Leadership Council was built on was the Coalition for a Democratic Majority.[4] Founded by "Scoop" Jackson Democrats in response to George McGovern's massive loss to Richard Nixon in 1972, the CDM was dismayed by two presidential election losses and the organization's goal was to steer the party away from the New Left influence that had permeated the Democratic party since the late 1960s and back to the policies that made the FDR coalition"

We needed FDR, and we got hoover lite.

Yeltsin was drunk, in his undies, wandering the streets of DC and people translated this into "I'm looking for Pizza"?
No, I think he may have been saying, "I want a piece of ...".

Clinton is still one man that many women would like to "be with". He has a dirty sexiness about him.

Also, an excellent judge of fine cigars, I understand.

This guy was actually amazing on Larry King the other day. I'm surprised I didn't hear more about it. I guess if he had said something negative about the President it might have gotten more attention.

Why, oh why is this man writing this book NOW? It seems a bit sinister ( a lot) to me. I am not a Clinton fan, but what has
happened to people with all of these tell-all, sleazy expose's?
08:59 AM on 09/22/2009
Take it easy, Rock. Branch is just about the most respected journalist-historians we have. Headlines will always play up the most sensational aspects of anything, but you can rest assured that the book is far from sleazy. As the USA Today story describes it, it could turn out to be the most important book yet written on the Clinton presidency.

It might be a bit hard to swallow but it seems to me that Monica Lewinsky didn't do too well out of all this.

Describing a heated exchange between Clinton and Gore after the 2000 election, the article says
"Gore replied that Clinton's scandalous shadow was a 'drag' that had plagued Gore at every step of the campaign." It is comforting to know that Gore had the gumption to say it directly to Clinton.

Isn't that the same guy your favorite writer calls "Mr. Ozone .... the leader of the wackadoo wing of the Dem0cratic party"?

I have yet to read an objective analysis suggesting that the Gore campaign used Clinton wisely. If you have, please include a link.

My position is there is no such thing as objective analysis in politics. I believe using Bill Clinton would have lost more votes than it gained. Clinton opened the door for a George Bush victory as wide as a Democrat possibly could, and as wide as he openned the trap of abused bank deregulation to melt the economy.

It's just good to know someone stood to Bill Clinton and challenged his eternal victimhood. Hope someone will say something as true and a blunt to Bush.

Oral History? Well, that's a new way to put it.

Boris Yeltsin was just like a real life clone of my ex father in law Stanley Krupa, a bore, a drunk and a sad loud mouth who treated his own family miserably. Those old farts were the main reason that vodka and beer sales went through the roof, and families ran to the church for some salvation.
