Newsweek:

Some U.S. special forces in Afghanistan and Pakistan may be at higher risk than usual of injury and death because the Pentagon has not equipped their units with enough helicopters to transport them safely around the countries, say six current and former military officials.

Obama is continuing the Bush tradition of under supplying our troops. Where is the change that Obama promised?

Who believes or cares what Newsweek has to say anymore?

The disparity in weapons and equipment between the US and the Taliban is already vast. If you can't defeat them with the massive advantage you already have, you won't defeat them with this massive advantage plus a few more helicopters.

The Conservatives have recently tried the same complaint in the UK.

Didn't someone once say: "You go to war with what you have!" Gads, I'm sure lucky to be out of the crotch!

I don't understand why we are building billion dollar aircraft carriers, submarines and warplanes that cost $40,000 an hour to operate while we can't give the troops what they really need. Maybe the pentagon gets more kickbacks this way.

Either send more helicopters or get out - just quit hanging our troops out to dry!

there is no "winning" in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Both wars will be abandoned sooner or later with the only winners being those who are getting rich off the cycle of destruction and reconstruction.

Exactly like Vietnam.

I reject the premise. Being in Afghanistan puts the Green Berets at risk - not a shortage of helicopters.

So the real question is, "How long will it be before the right-wingers blame this on President Obama?" Like he can just snap his fingers and make helicopters appear out of thin-air. I guess this is a holdover from the "I support the Troops" Bush/Cheney/Rummy approach to doing war on the cheap.

they should hire more mechanics at NAS Corpus Christi, it is one of the two places in the usa that fix the helicopters... remember all the base shut downs and the sub contracting to other thieving vendors and contractors...

that was Great ideas! NOT

In the God-awful lands of the bones of empires we are destroying our military and threatening our national security. And the American people are not being told the truth of our declining condition. We have despicable leadership whose main agenda is position and power.

The despicable leadership that failed to order helicopters to support the missions is the BUSH administration. Helicopters don't fall of the end of production lines just because you wish for them now.

Well said. An excellent argument for the F-22 as well, don't you think?
