Sherlock Holmes Sequel

hollywoodreporter.com:

Three months ahead of the release of its Robert Downey Jr. action pic, Warners is developing a new installment.

The studio is poised to bring on Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the scribes who are penning its "Justice League: Mortal" tentpole, to pen a draft of the new tale. Brad Pitt has had discussions with producers to star as Holmes' nemesis Moriarty in the new pic, say people familiar with the project, though there is no deal in place for him to take the part.

Someone tweeted up above about a role being created for Gary Oldman. Forgot all about him! He's a chameleon-like actor who'd make an incredible Moriarty. Loved his portrayals of Sirius Black and Lee Harvey Oswald.

Gary Oldman would be a much better choict to play a villain like Moriarty. Pitt doesn't have the range.

Not only that, but the previews make it look like everything the books were not--utterly non-cerebral, full of ladies in lingerie, fistfights, etc. In other words, the american audience should love it. It will probably get an oscar, God help us. It looks like exactly the sort of thing pitt would like to be in, so he probably will be.

The current american malady, in a nutshell: "You can't fix stupid."

Holmes is portrayed in the books as a master in martial arts and quite the fighter. However he is somewhat asexual so I'm guessing the ladies are for Watson.

I agree. Don't think Pitt will fit as that iconic character. He's too American and judging by his role in "Troy", he sucks as accents as well. Jeremy Irons, Gerard Butler, Clive Owen...all better choices.

So you want an Englishman to play an Englishman? You must be on of those fired ABC critics?

Jeremy Irons plays Jeremy Irons in everything. Weird, English, and a per__vert.

The fact that Brad is an American actor playing an Englishman shows his depth as actor.

Gerard Butler the new Matthew McConaughey? Playing along side RDJ and Jude Law?

Don't bother telling anyone what's in your movie library.

First of all, little girl. If you want to debate me, you can do so without the personal digs. Showing your a** gets you ignored by me.

It would be a big challange, PBS regularly airs , Jeremy Brent on Thursdays, I urge the bloggers to watch them while they still shows those classics.

Robert Downey Jr. sacrificed his career and looks for drugs - I wouldn't pay to see him no matter how talented - a has-been. And Madonna's ex is a lousy director - a vanity project.

Has been? RDJ has cleaned up his act and is still a brilliant actor. If you won't see his films, that's your loss.

He's an awesome actor who has had some struggles in his life. He's made a sincere effort to get himself together. Have some compassion.

Dear God, no! He can't act. Does anyone remember "Meet Joe Black?" The worst acting I've ever seen. Embarrassing. Get a Brit in there. I agree, Jeremy Irons would be great. At least he's not in the current one so I can go see it.

Have you seen anything else since then? It's been over 10 years since Meet Joe Black. You really aren't in any position to talk of the man's acting ability if that is the film you are referencing to justify your opinion.

To tell you the truth, after being thoroughly traumatized by Pitt's "performance" in "Meet Joe Black", I never went to another movie he starred in (except for "Oceans" and "Burn After Reading" since there were other good actors in those movies that I wanted to see. There is never a time when Pitt is on screen that I am not thinking, "Pitt is acting."

agree with you posterella - he cant act as well as his fans believe he can - and he certainly cant act well enough to play Moriarty

Jeremy Irons would be great. Pitt is not in that league - pitt is a celebrity actor who does okay when he is well directed.

Jeremy Irons can play any Englishman so long as he is a per__vert, weird, and an Englishman.

He's an alright actor, but I don't think he would do Moriarty justice. Can't see him pulling off British or Professor, let alone evil mastermind British Professor.

Brad was terrific as Jesse James and he has played extraordinary villains. His best is Early Grayce and Louis de Pointe du Lac! Jeffrey Goines? Tyler Durden? His funniest was Micky O'Neil.

Pitt would be an awesome nemesis, his best role to date is of course of the villain (Tyler Durden) and not the hero!

I think Jeremy Irons would be a better choices, than Brad Pitt. Someone who is an Englishman, not American, also more true to the role.
