Craig Ferguson Mocks His Own Network: 'CSI' Is Our Version Of The 'Jay Leno Show,' More Skin Less Chin (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/22/09 05:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 03:10 PM ET

Craig Ferguson took on his network's prize franchise last night, mocking "CSI" for David Caruso's death puns, the number of spin-offs it's produced and the amount of cleavage it shows. After doing a pretty sharp Caruso impression, he delved into the sex appeal of the franchise, saying CBS's new tagline should be: "Somebody's dead, everybody's sexy." He also compared CBS's ten pm slot to NBC's saying "CSI" is our version of the "Jay Leno Show," more skin less chin, and suggested they merge the two ideas to have Leno solve crime.

CSI - "More skin less chin than Jay Leno" ---- And a lot funnier too.

Craig's late night show is the best of all. He has terrific talent. What I like is his simple low budget approach. No band, announcer, fancy sets, a platoon of writers, gimmicks (except puppets), or expensive produced videos. (In fact he makes fun of all of this. He had an entire show about getting a new light). Nothing, except his ability to stand in front of the camera, night after night, and improvise, on the spot, at least half of the show. All of the others simply deliver what their writers produced for them (that's a little exagerated, but not too much). If you don't watch, at least record a few and try it out later.

Ferguson is terrific! A fairly little known secret of a show that's finally growing in viewership. Silly and irreverent.

Just give Craig and Dave and Jon credit for being the only ones who are keeping late night comedy from falling off its own cliff. Craig is so talented he makes Conan seem like Carrot Top and Leno look like... Leno.

i used to avoid him out of protest since the other guy left but CF is great now that i have grown up a little and taken time to watch him...

Craig Ferguson has the best monologues on late night. And he is spot on about David Carsuso's feeble attempts at pithy one liners at the start of every episode. They usually leave me groaning in disgust through the first commercial break. Does he write those crappy jokes for himself, or is someone on the writing staff deliberately trying to sabotage Caruso's career?

No one had to sabotage Caruso's career, he managed that himself.

Maybe, but I'd love to cash his paychecks..

If that's sabotage, then by all means, sabotage me!

I love Craig Ferguson, but I think he had the sunglasses part backwards. Horatio Caine doesn’t say something witty and take off his glasses, but puts them on.

BRILLIANT!

I love to hear the Craig Ferguson monologues, they are very funny.

Countfloyd......Craig, himself, is an "A Lister".....we watch his show for him........and "Wavy", the new crocodile.

Caruso has to be the worst on all the CSI shows. All he does is stand around, wear sunglasses, has his back to the people he is talking to. But then again what did they think hiring a one time wonder?

I always wonder why his head sticks out at such an odd angle from his body.

Not to mention that he's not a bit good-looking, with that pitted complexion. I can't stand to watch that show because of him.
12:26 AM on 09/23/2009
Agreed. What's with the 1) dumb sunglasses and 2) the constant right-side profiles? I hate such shallow repetitions in television and don't watch CSI as a result. Ferguson, on the other hand...I will give up sleep time to watch at least the first twenty brilliant minutes of his show. The VERY best of night television--hands down.

I am no longer a fan - but happy for him insofar as USA citizenship.
12:37 PM on 09/22/2009
Is there a reason why you are no longer a fan?
02:17 AM on 09/23/2009
Craig's army of lustful female fans suffered some desertions when he married a younger woman, that is, a woman younger than the lustful female fans. How dare he seek happiness!
