UPDATE: AIG's Joseph Cassano is BACK in U.S. soil. Check out info on his "surprisingly modest" home here.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Well, not always. When it comes to the once renowned financial titans we were all so familiar with before the crisis, there aren't many who mourn for a return of Wall Street's old guard.

We decided to roll the clocks back a bit and review some of the bigger names from the pre-Crisis era of finance. The cast of characters should be familiar: Angelo Mozilo, Countrywide's subprime king, who's now facing charges from the SEC; Hank Paulson, the former Treasury Secretary who engineered the TARP program last year; and Franklin Raines, the decidedly well-compensated ex-Fannie Mae CEO, who's legal fees are still being paid by the U.S. taxpayer. Then, of course, there's Kerry Killinger, the former CEO of Washington Mutual, who oversaw the largest bank failure in U.S. history - and walked away with a $100 million severance package. (Nice work, if you can get it.)

In the interest of retrospection, we decided to ask a simple question: Where are they now? To find out what they've been up to, check out our photos and vote for your least favorite financier from Wall Street's pre-crisis days.

Stanley O'Neal, Former CEO, Merrill Lynch

Stanley O'Neal, the former president and CEO of Merrill Lynch, led his firm into the risky territory of subprime mortgage bonds that eventually led to its demise. O'Neal was named by CNBC one of the "Worst American CEOs of All Time," but when he was replaced by John Thain in 2007, he took with him $161.5 million worth of stock in severance. In 2008, he was appointed to the board of the aluminum company Alcoa but reportedly still has enough downtime to play golf several times per week.

If I could, I'd plop all of these megalomaniacs, egomaniacs, sociopaths on a large sailboat in the middle of the Indian Ocean, with only enough food for a week for a normal-sized crew. Oh, and with no cellphones, no computers, no radio except a short-range for communication. And then, I'd take the videotape I've hidden and sell it on ebay, with the proceeds going to buy back foreclosed properties for pennies on the dollar and then putting the evicted families back into them.

It has to be the AIG guy for me. Who insures everything under the sun, no questions asked? Insurance is supposed to be a guarantee of risk, but they just took all comers. Therin lay the problem. If they would have said NO! Banks could not have extended the loans. Am I right?

The fed is playing in re inflating the housing & finance bubble while the public willingly lets it happen (not that we could stop if if we wanted to). We're all too busy getting rich with stocks while the Wall Street crooks resume their treachery knowing they will get bailed out yet again.

good articles 4 slow news day; http://www.iamned.com

The lack of any finance or heath care reform is appalling

He´d furnish the office in Ikea if he had to do it over...?

´Bout sums up the nature and degree of the remorse that these people are capable of feeling.

Moore, Tallibi, and Krugman are right. We need more people like them in high office

If no justice is served the American People are going to get more restless, and the next time something happens.....there could be real UNREST! WE have to hold people accountable for their actions.

Ignorance = Negligence....... They knew what was going on the whole time, all the while padding their pockets. The U.S. crony-Capitalist justice system is a f**king joke. There must be some way we can outsource for justice against these criminals.

talibi is right

Why isn't Barney Frank, Chairman of the Financial Services Committee, in this lineup? He was totally asleep at the wheel. He knows how to point a finger though.

You mean GW Bush!? Right?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:21 PM on 09/22/2009

No, I mean Barney Frank. He was responsible for oversight of this industry. After the fact, after the meltdown, he pontificates, he sweats, and he blames everyone else for the problem but himself. He could have, he should have, he was in the position to enact legislation to curb the abuses; but he didn't.

Remember the old adage that the best way to rob a bank is to own one? Well, these b.a.s.t.a.r.d.s. looted the Treasury too! And many of you ask, "Why aren't they in prison? Why haven't they been punished for their crimes?" They committed crimes against the nation's economy, damaging it maybe beyond repair, and they made--and are still making--billions in the process. Aside from the rare exception, they will never pay under the current political and judicial system because they own it! The American system has been corrupted, and will remain so, until We the People make them pay for their crimes against our great republic, until we make examples of them. When this criminal class at last realizes they can irrevocably lose the class-war game they've been playing, THEN maybe America can begin to reclaim its greatness. It's high time to loot the looters. Lady Liberty cries out for vengeance.

I'm paraphrasing Thomas Jefferson, but his wisdom and foresight made him a giant among other mortals: "When the People learn how to steal from their own Treasury, the Union is doomed." Uh oh...

Here's another bit of insight: http://www.themoneymasters.com/

It's all pretty much smoke 'n mirrors, and it's been that way since the first "king/chief" told the first lie of expedience.

While the right is trying to castrate Obama and hang any black person they can find, they allow wh !tes to rob and pillage America blind. Yes I said wh !tes, the so called bl acks are not bl ack, they are oreos. Where were Rush, Hannity, Beck, Dobbs when we needed them? Now this is something to get everyone riled up about . Why didn't they use their air time to really benefit America. Why didn't they call out the troops on these guys -- - BECAUSE THESE GUYS ARE FOR THE MOST PART WH ITE! wH ITES can get away with anything because they are wh ite. The sad part of it all is these peoplea re not in jail and are somewhere living the life of luxury off the money they stole (everyone except Bernie, that is).

And though Obama ran against "Bush's failed economic policies," Obama obviously hearts Bush's failed economic team - Bernanke & Geithner.

Obama owns Bush's blunders and now makes them his own. His free shave ended after he took the oath of office on January 20.
