The article doesn't say anything about there being a formal engagement. My guess is the two year timeline is being floated as another way of allowing the two to quietly split-up with Kate saving face.

OK, this is in People mag, so grain of salt taken. I have to disagree though if they think their (supposed) wedding will be the same international media event as that of William's parents in 1981. Two 30-somethings getting married, especially when they've been an item for 6 years or so, is not going to stir imaginations like the 19 year old virgin and the dashing older bachelor prince. (and especially since that fairy tale turned out to be exactly that. )

Their ages have nothing to do with it. It's more that after what happened to his mom,
the fantasy of being a princess was shown to be a complete nightmare that you
wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. Prior to that, it didn't much matter how old
the couple was, the marriage of royalty always seem so magical. People would
rather be the next reality t.v. star than end up being a stuffy Princess suffering
from depression and bulimia.

I say to Kate Middleton: run, baby run, as fast as possible and find a billionaire
businessman instead. Or keep extending the marriage date until you find someone
else! Let William find some random European royal to marry and they can live
unhappily ever after, happily.

I think the reality of being a royal is terrible, especially since the world is moving on from that period in history where a leaders child will thus become the next leader...
Yes i know the english royals have no actual power, but they do live a splendid life without doing actual physical work, they dont crunch numbers, they dont lift anything heavy, they talk and socialize and persuade, thats about it. They do that their entire lives, and people dont think its fair. Even Paris hilton, that box of rocks works for a living (mostly because she was cut out of her grandfathers will but thats another story).

I would much rather just marry rich and travel and buy loads of useless crap, except you dont get followed by photographers where ever you go, thats the difference between royalty and being rich. In the end though, royalty does have the last laugh, they will always be in the history books....a­nd a rich person wont, so you live a fun happy life and eventually become forgotten, or live fancy terrible life and never be forgotten.­..
