New York Times:

Long gone are the days when politicians simply got up and announced they were running for office. Hillary Rodham Clinton used e-mail to announce her presidential run. Gavin Newsom used Twitter to declare that he would run for governor of California.

Former Representative Rick A. Lazio, Republican of Long Island, used a less technologically sophisticated, but equally of-our-times, approach to announcing that he will run for governor of New York next year.
