Glenn Beck Boiling Frog VIDEO: Did Beck Just Kill A Frog?

Holy shit. Did Glenn Beck just kill a poor little frog, on national teevee? Yes! Or...no, maybe it was faked! Or maybe it was real, and Beck is now having to pretend he faked it? Or not! WHO KNOWS. This is what you get with Glenn Beck, fighting the phantom "OLIGARHY" with his wacky "morning Zoo" stunts of yesteryear!

This afternoon, Glenn Beck had been fulminating on topics, varied and sundry, including how awful John McCain is, for liking Theodore Roosevelt. He was building to some sort of point, decrying Republicans and Democrats, saying, "You can support Democrats, who are basically socialists, or you can support Republicans, who are basically old Democrats." No, I wasn't really able to make sense of that either. But then Beck's attention turned to the old frogs-in-boiling-water metaphor.

"You know the old saying, if you put a frog into boiling water, he's going to jump right out, because he's scalding hot, but if you place the frog in lukewarm water and gradually raise the temperature, it won't realize what's happening and die?"

Yes! I have heard that old saying, because I, too, have encountered homeless paranoiacs at the Port Authority Bus Terminal!

Anyway, that's when Beck apparently palmed a rubber frog, and began building to his crescendo:

Barack Obama has galvanized the country, because of the sheer size of the bills he's proposed, and the number of the bills, the urgency he's placing on the bills. He's forced us to think! And get involved! We have -- not like John McCain, been boiled slowly -- we have been tossed quickly into boiling water, and don't forget what happens! What happens when you throw 'em in! When you throw 'em in, frogs into boiling water!

[throws frog in, nothing happens]

Okay...forget the frog. [pause] I swear I thought they jumped right out. But they don't.

What just happened? By all appearances, Glenn Beck had murdered a frog. But he quickly offered, "Forget about the Republicans, because most of them are fake. Forget about the Democrats, because most of them are fake. And forget about the frog, because it was fake!" Oh! Okay! So the only thing that was murdered was Beck's metaphor, in which his hyper-informed viewers were capable of jumping out of boiling water.

In case you were wondering, everything you have heard about the frogs-in-boiling-water fable is biologically and zoologically incorrect:

Professor Doug Melton, Harvard University Biology Department, says, "If you put a frog in boiling water, it won't jump out. It will die. If you put it in cold water, it will jump before it gets hot -- they don't sit still for you."

So do not try this at home. Do not try anything you see on the Glenn Beck show at home.

[CORRECTION: I accidentally mistranscribed this quote, "Forget about the Republicans, because most of them are fake. Forget about the Democrats, because most of them are fake," leaving the word "Republicans" in both clauses. I imagine that didn't make much sense! The fault was mine, and it has been duly corrected.]

Everyone needs to contact the City of Mt. Vernon and let them know you won't be attending their biggest annual event the Tulip Festival, or shop @ any of their stores until they take back the Key of the City Back from Glenn Beck.

I heard a couple minutes of Beck the other day and they were upset saying that everyone, including Hufpo reported him as boiling a frog alive and killing an innocent animal. I remember seeing here that they said he pretended to boil a frog in the headlines, and I also searched and couldnt find anything saying he actually boiled a live frog..

I was at the demonstration outside Skagit Valley College, I must say I was traumatized by the Beck supporters. When I first arrived carrying my sign: "Frogs Fight Back Against Hate (PIC of cartoon Frog w/black belt in fighting stance) & Beck Boiled My Mother on T.V" (PIC of real frog). The other side of my sign: "No Tears For Beck the Clown or FOX News (logo) for Inciting Hate, Murder & Terrorism" (PIC of Glenn crying w/another PIC of him with Joker Face), I was walking through a crowds of anti-Beck but as walked towards the street entrance of Hall I found myself in crowd of Beck supporters. They started yelling at me, "YOU DRANK THE KOOL-AID!" "Beck tells the truth!" What was most amazing they didn't comment on the Joker/Clown side of my sign instead they were yelling, “THE FROG WASN'T REAL!! It was PLASTIC, LIKE YOU!" One old woman yelled at me, "WE ARE THE TRUE AMERICANS!" I was basically in shock that these people actually believe in Beck lies so I couldn't help yelling back at her "AND I AM A NATIVE AMERICAN AND YOU ARE ALL BOAT PEOPLE!"

In response to the first video, all Glenn needs is gimmicks! Strange how that came to be.

I don't know what his explanation the next day was, but if you watch the video closely he never pulls a frog out of the cage/tank. At the 31-32 second mark he appears to be closing his fingers over a frog, but it jumps out just before he extracts his hand. They never show the pot and you don't see anything when he fakes throwing it in. The splash sound effect actually happens as he opens his hands, not after as it would in reality.

So, if he is throwing either an imaginary or a rubber frog into the pot, clearly he knows nothing is going to jump out. His analogy was that he and like minded citizens would "jump out of the pot" when Obama and the secret army try to boil us.

So knowing that no jumping was going to happen was he actually trying to say that we were all going to die as a result of the bills being proposed and "rushed" through Congress? More Beck fear-mongering? That's the only explanation that I can come up with.

I can't tell if you are trying to be funny or if you are seriously trying to insult my intelligence while misspelling the word "stupid" and being totally incorrect about what he clearly said.

The point he was trying to make was that Obama is trying to "turn up the heat too fast" by rushing things through and he and his followers, like the proverbial frog, would jump out of the water..... except that didn't happen.

Perhaps you might want to listen to what he says in the video above and turn spell check on before you try to insult someone next time.
