What's Your Reaction?
Rahm

The Hill:

The Senate has been fairly clear that they cannot pass a healthcare bill including a public option, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel asserted Wednesday evening.

Emanuel professed pessimism that healthcare reform would include a strict public (or "government-run") option, though he signaled an expectation that House liberals may still push for the prized reform.

Rahm is the godfather of the blue dogs. You take the good with the bad. No blue dogs, no overwhelming numerical superiority for Democrats. At least we can put some pressure on these folks. You think Imholf gives a dam.n what we think? Any blue dog is subject to a primary, which would severely cut into his/her healthcare insurance industry cash. Of course, Rahm was known for the smart use of Democratic Party cash to support candidates he thought could win in contested districts. It's not an accident that a strong-willed man is no longer head of the DNC. There is only room for one top dog, one who's bluer than we might have initially suspected.

Rahm is mainly known for vindictively throwing Dean out of his seat at DNC after Dean refused to capitulate to him and give him the cash to run his selective campaign which would have stripped the 50 state strategy of its power. w out the 50 state strategy we'd be looking at McCAin'suglymug rt now.

Rahm is not so brilliant, but surelyasnake.

He didn't really wanted that job - and if I hear that I think: rightly so. Time to go home to your family Rahm. Disappointing. Main thing, you have an insurance, right?

Bye, bye.

I called Sen. Harry Reid's office about an hour ( 202 ) 224 - 3542 ) ago to ask them

what Reid's opinion or stance on this was seeing as the WH Chief of Staff was implying that the Public Option was not going to be there.... and they were not pushing for it.

The person is Reid's Office said he did not watch TV or the Newspapers.
He had not heard about Rahm's comments. Reallyyyy? How could that be.....
The Majority Leader of the Senate would not have heard about this comment from the WH.
If he hasn't heard about it.... he is not doing HIS job. Reid's office had ' no comment ' basically.

People should call at that number. Tell the Senate... PUBLIC OPTION or you failed.

Rahm looks like the cat that ate the canary. The reconciliation committee will iron out the differences between the House and Senate versions of the health care reform bill. There will be only be three players. House Democrats, Senate Democrats and White House Democrats. If the White House wants a public option, it's the House and White House against the Senate. Tell me again why there won't be a public option?

Because the White House doesn't want a Government Option.
PBO is only trying to satisfy his Progressive HuffingtonPost Base and let you believe he has no other choice.

There will be PLENTY of competition if Employers can buy Healthinsurance from the lowest cost out-of-state companies, through the Insurance Exchange. Also, the Co-Ops will be strengthened and they will accomplish what they are supposed to do.

The White House want at least 60 votes including Senator Snowe, so they can move on with other matters and get re- elected in 2010. Progressive will NOT vote for Republicans in 2010!

Rahm is the smartest person in the Obama Administration. PBO is correct to trust Rahm's opinions.

The people are behind the public option - Rahm is doing what he needs to do - keep the masses angry and fighting. If everyone thinks that the public option is a shoe-in then they won't keep the pressure up on those in Congress (Democrats) who might waiver at the last minute. I have no doubt that the President is behind this latest proclamation from Rahm. We can't ever think that the Republicans will roll over and play dead, they are going to the "mattresses" on this and President Obama wants to make sure that we are ready to fight the good fight with him.

Keep up the pressure and let Rahm do what Rahm does best - making people angry enough to shout!

I really hope you are right. The problem I have is that this whole fight has been fabricated. That is so that the American people will be happy to accept public option instead of single payer. This whole mess is shameful. There is no fight. The American people put the democrats there to GIT ER DONE. They are in total control. Doesn't matter how much money the insurance co have given them. It takes people to actually show up in a polling booth. They are making a very big mistake if no real healthcare reform results from all of this. The democrats and republicans.

Rahm has been ready to sell us out from the beginning on this issue, and lots of others that dont get as much press.

I can never understand why he feels compelled to open his mouth at all. It's certainly not needed, nor should it be welcomed by the administration. He very likely is a brilliant strategist and a valuable member of the team, but should definitely be relegated to a non-speaking role. Pragmatism has it's place, but it comes across as negativism and pessimism in this instance, and I cannot see how it advances the reform idea at all.
Could it be that he does this deliberately? As an attempt to galvanize those who support reform, but do so at a staid and placid place? I would hate to think he's deliberately sabotaging the effort, it just seems too obvious for that.
