Stewardess Reality Show Planned By CW

The CW has announced plans for "Fly Girls," a new reality show that will track five Virgin America stewardesses as they cavort in their "high-flying careers filled with exotic locations and handsome strangers."

"Hot" flight attendants? Haven't seen any since Braniff was flying. Nowadays, a lot of the female attendants resemble Hilda The Viscious Rolfer (Ve haff vays of dealing mit you, ya?).

I know. Aeroflot was the last hold out for hiring only hot flight attendants. Now even they bring out the two baggers.

Stewardess.....now that's a term I haven't heard in many moons. Isn't this kind of sexist? And, where do you see any flight attendants that look like the four in the picture? If you're going to do a reality show, show real flight attendants.

Karate Kid, you must not get out much! Only in America is "stewardess" considered an anti-PC term. Most of the word still uses that phrase or "air hostess". And the girls in the pic above are REAL, current Virgin Atlantic air hostesses....it's from a retro TV spot airing in the UK this Summer.

I get out a lot, but unfortunately, I fly domestic and half of the women have weight issues, some of them serious. I don't know how they get stuff up and down the aisles.

What is a "stewardess"? There is no such thing. How can we have a reality show about something that doesn't exist?

A number of flight attendants are male, will they be on the show?

I presume we are going to learn about the FAs who saved passengers when Sully went down in the Hudson or the FAs who died saving people in the Sioux City crash, right?

Your starting question captured it. If only we'd actually see a dignified portrayal of flight attendants, including guys, like those two stories involving real heros that you mentioned

When I was in California about six years ago, I met a flight attendant with her partner in a restaurant and obviously we began talking about flying. I think she worked for American Airlines. She told me that she had been doing the job for four years. I asked her how many countries had she visited and she told me that she had never been out of the country.

She explained that there was a pecking order and that only the older flight attendants went on overseas trips.

On my flight home I did notice that they were older than the flight attendants on European airlines.

Flight attendants, like pilots, work on a seniority system.

Where you're based, what aircraft you're on, what trips you fly, when you go on vacation, are all based on seniority.

Every month I put in a request for what schedule I want for the following month. If someone senior to me wants the same schedule, they get it and it goes to my next choice unless someone senior wants that too and so on down the line.

As a relative "bottom feeder" on the seniority list I tend to get whatever happens to come my way.

ok fear of flying never been on a plane what's the going age of a flight attendant? do they work until they can draw their ssi? do they work until they get wrinkles? do they have obese attendants? i know that last question is not pc but i was curious

I don't fly frequently, but I fly a few times every year. Flight attendants look like school teachers. They come in an assortment of ages and sizes. They are generally pleasant looking, but nothing flashy. You never see truly obese fight attendants, male or female, because it would be just too difficult for them to maneuver in cramped plane cabins. I have seen some who were definitely in their 50's, but I would say I have never seen an elderly flight attendant. NONE of them have been the "Coffee, Tea, or Me" type bimbettes of yesteryear's stereotypes.

99% of Virgin America's female flight attendants are indeed SUPER HOT! They are almost all in their 20's and wear high heels and skirts. No wonder the CW chose Virgin America to base this series on.

Now if we could only get the real airlines to turn the clock back to the 1970's. Stewardesses, wide aisles, meals on the plane. What was not to love?

If you fly on one of the major European carriers like KLM it's still like that.

I've actually been served a meal on a 45-minute KLM flight.

This ide might have worked in airlines heydey in the 1960s, when When Boeing, Boieing was written and "Coffee Tea or Me was a funny line.

Today, travel is too much of a hassle and the flight attendants look way too stressed and tired to be an attractive subject for reality TV. Leave is up to the CW channel to dumb down the subject in some fantasy retro show.

We have enough reality show's making dysfuncational A OK. Enough of these shows already? What's the matter no one can WRITE SCRIPTS ANYMORE? THE DUMBING OF AMERICA IS WELL UNDERWAY.

You took the words right out of my mouth ! Where are the writers? Who knows what a story line or a story board is? This is what happens when Hollywood becomes nothing more than a legacy= scriptwriting, acting, productions is often handed down from generation to generation. I know a lot of very talented young writers who cannot even get their scripts read. Yet, truly simple minded programs that require no effort or thinking (think reality show here) and are cheap to produce are saturating the airwaves.

Well, I just read on Huffpo that the kids have been drinking leaded water in some schools, so guess we'll chalk it up to that, huh?
