DonorsChoose.org Targets High-Poverty Classrooms
Online hub DonorsChoose.org filters your donations to American schools in need. The "choose" part means you get to select which school or program your money goes to. Both Bill Gates and Stephen Colbert have advocated for Donors Choose, giving the site a huge boost as a portal for charitable giving.
With families strapped across America, school boards and educators are suffering even more. Here are some specific programs in need of help:
Tennessee Bloggers For Education is donating to classrooms throughout the state, items like a reversible mobile easel, magnetic letters and dry-erase boards. The group has a Facebook page if you want to stay really connected, Tennessee blogger style.
You can follow those promoting their giving on Twitter and see who's raising the most money for their projects. Even Twitter co-founder Biz Stone is getting in on the action.
Donors Choose also allows you to filter by certain keywords. For example, search for 'military' to donate specifically to kids from military families.
Anyone can start their own Donors Choose project, so please create your own and include the link in the comments of this page!
