This has been the purpose of Daley's Olympic plan all along. Putting Black people out of the city! Any one who thinks Daley is going to allow working class Black families to be the face of Chicago for an international event like the Olympics is delusional.

Blah, blah, blah...

The majority of people who have bought land in the area as of late has been private developers building condos and rental buildings.

The city already owns a lot of land in the area. The city landhas the steel beams around it.

I'd like someone to buy all the vacant land in the area because god knows there's a lot of it.

The entire Olympic movement is a colossal rip-off of the public, and every bid is a conspiracy between ego-driven politicians, property developers and speculators, and unelected, self-appointing international fat-cat freeloaders.

Only a portion of the park will be closed. Last time I checked there were other parks in the area that people could use like Jackson Park.

Also, they are planning to submerge 55th underground which would in fact help to create more green space after the olympics are over.

Daley will just use the Olympics as another excuse to increase his patronage army. And they'll jack up property taxes to do it:

I am confident that the Olympics will work out as well as the Parking Meter deal and the average citizen of Chicago will be benefit just as much.

Very well and extremely politely put!
Needless to say, I agree.

And that sucks because I actually would love to have the games here. But I think the citizens will suffer and the costs both financially and physically (being forced out of their home, losing access to parks or other public places, etc.) far outweighs any perceived benefits, including these nebulous "jobs" that are being talked up at the moment.

Not to worry.
The Mayor will adopt the usual "standard operating procedure" and send out swarms of city inspectors to write up hundreds of code violations on all those homes and businesses that stand in his way. Then, piously condemn the hapless owner's property in the name of progress.

P/S. That crunching sound you hear is the sound of a bulldozer running over your dining room set.
