What's Your Reaction?
Glenn Beck

SNL's Weekend Update took on President Obama's decision to exclude Fox News from his Sunday media tour last night. Despite granting interviews to ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and Univision he left Fox off his roster prompting Chris Wallace to call the White House "crybabies." During a long (and generally funny) opening sketch, SNL touched on one of the many reasons the president may have chosen to skip Fox on his media tour: Glenn Beck.

Not only did Beck call Obama a racist, but since then has been on a tour of insanity, upping his already nutty game.

Weekend Update took on specific aspects of Glenn's character: His propensity to misspell things, to use that muppet-like voice, and, of course, invoke Hitler.

One of the reasons Obama decided not to do Fox News that weekend, might have had something to do with the fact that Fox's main network (not Fox News) refused to carry Obama's speech before Congress Sept 9 2009. They broadcast it on Fox News and Fox Business Network, but not carrying the speech on their broadcast channel (all the other major networks did) was seen as a slap in the face to Obama (or an attempt at one). Along with that particular decision, Fox said it had no obligation to carry any of Obama's speeches. It's not the first time it's happened.

I'm not sure how FOXs ratings equate to quality news. I mean the gossip magazines are some of the most purchased magazines, doesn't mean the content is of high quality or even truthful. I mean Not as many people watched the west wing as people who watch american idol.

Typically high quality news or information have lower viewership simply because, you know what, it's not as entertaining. I'll say it, I'm a liberal, but I find MSNBC less entertaining than FOX, but what I'm getting from FOX and what I'm getting say from BBC or MSNBC are very diff, FACTS aren't very entertaining........but loud bombastic, rants, are way more entertaining, hell I'm a liberal and watch fox sometimes, I probably contribute to their ratings, but it's the same as me contributing as an onlooker to the tea baggers, ...I'm a viewer in awe of what they actually say...... I mean we are talking about a "news" organization that plays to the lowest common denominator in the country

And MSNBC people like Olberlman or how ever you spell his name are hard core journalists right?
No bombastic bs coming from him is there?

Maddow and Olbermann try to make their shows quite entertaining. You may not always appreciate their concept of entertainment, but many of their shows are pretty thick with it. Often their combination of facts and entertainment work well--not always, but far more often than on Fox, as far as I'm concerned. I've laughed far more with Olbermann than with any other show in my recent memory. As for bombastic, Olbermann is plenty that, and I like it that way--usually. My impression of most people who complain about Olbermann's bombasticity, is that about half of them are really complaining about his ability to rattle off facts, draw equivalencies, connect the dots, describe the likely impact of various issues and things various people are doing, etc. The other half who don't like him, just don't like his delivery. Too bad for them.

MSNBC's other shows are less show businessy, so they serve as a useful counterpoint to the often-entertaining Olbermann and Maddow. However, Olbermann and Maddow are able to cram into their shows, at least as many facts and things worth thinking about, as MSNBC's "more serious" shows.

Hate to break it to you folks but Obama is losing in the polls and no phony cries of racism, phony cries of right-wing conspiracies, goofy SNL skits, liberal blogs, YouTube videos, aliens from outer space or any other ridiculous excuse is gonna change that fact. The cat's out of the bag and the American people are now figuring out who the president really is. Hope & Change is looking more like Hope & Pray.

I realize Beck is sometimes off the wall but what about his exposing of Van Jones and Acorn while the "mainstream media" ignored it? Where is SNL when it comes to exposing corrupted officials such as Dodd, Frank, Engel and Schumer?

Come on, now. You are hitting below the belt. It is ok for the media to ignore ACORN trying to assist a hurting American pimp and prostitute make a go of things as long as they bash conservative ineptitude.

I think Glen Beck himself is a racist and the fact that Fox lets such people lose on its channel it is quite understandable why the President might have avoided the channel.

Obama's boycott of Fox news is correct. It is a Republican news station and will make money and ratings no matter if Obama shows up on it or not. So best for Obama to ignore it. Nobody who watches Fox News votes Democrat.

What a shame that people like you feel free to pull lies and misinformation straight from their A$$e$ like that, hoping that the less intelligent will take it as fact and propogate the stupidity on message boards. My boyfriend is a middle-of-the-road democrat and he watches FOX day and night. Check out some polls while you're at it, see that a healthy portion of FOX's viewership is non-Republican. There simply are not enough Republicans in the country to make it the top-rated cable news channel... duh. And please also note that the same number of viewers that Keith Olbermann/MSNBC has lost seems to correspond very nicely with the amount of viewers that FOX has gained... If you could just bring yourself to be (what?) fair and balanced, then you would tune into FOX and see that it's nearly nothing like Liberal blogs fabricate it to be.

I've seen far too many people CLAIM to be democrat when called and asked.BUT they are really republicans because they know that the truth about Fakenews is that it is about 99 percent closed minded republicans.

So yeah I'm calling you out on that.

WHY would any intelligent person calling himself a democrat watch a cr ap show like the Foxnewswhorehouse?

Glenn Beck is a total embarrasment to the country. I recently had some old friends of mine from Great Britain visiting with me & they could not believe the childish nonsense that Beck comes out with !

Funnier than Ms. Beck, herself.

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:54 PM on 09/28/2009

FYI, folks: Sure, Beck is bombastic ... but he was not "nuts" or wrong on Acorn, Van Jones, NEA & Yosi Sargent, and is now looking at impropriety/fitness of Kevin Jennings (the GLISTEN guy) as safety-in-schools czar. Ironically, amid all this foolish "beck is nuts" Huffington Posting, note that the NY Times has appointed an editor to monitor (read: get ideas from) the conservative blogosphere (including beck) because they missed those REAL NEWS stories of Acorn & Van Jones, How great is that? The NYTimes going to Beck for story ideas.
Like I said: Don't shoot the messenger.

Deaf ears, my friend......... I stumbled in here and read a few posts and quickly realized that the majority of the posters are deaf to common sense, blind to reality and high on hopium.. It is undeniable that Glenn Beck has hit a nerve.

Glenn Beck is one of the most awful personalities in news entertainment today.
my congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R) has a video of Glenn Beck ranting on his congressional homepage. This is not ok. The kind of hate and ignorance that Beck spews needs to be marginalized

You know, one of the ironies of this is Mr. Obama's stance on diplomacy. You know, his "talk to anyone, anytime, anywhere" sort of idea?
So if i understand this, Obama WILL talk to Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez. Both of whom are brutal tyrants that are, as we speak, doing unspeakable things to their own citizens and completely controlling the media in their countries to prevent any criticism.
He's not afraid, or disgusted, to talk to these tyrants. But Fox News? No way. Those guys may disagree with my agenda.
I think it hurts Obama to not talk to Fox. Many in middle america see this as an intentional snub of a cable channel that they think reflects many of their values and beliefs. Surely, at least as fair and balanced as say MSNBC and the NY Times.

Fox is not equatable to any other source....see the latest Pew Rearch Center poll.
Their bias is blatant, obvious, and contemptible.
"Mr." Obama (more precisely known as President Obama) does not need a corrupt forum like fox to advance his agenda. Who would "interview" him: bill-o, shamity, or the beck-clown........please!

The President is being reasonable by ignoring Fox. When he conducts talks with foreign leaders, even if he disagrees with them, they are all somewhat sane, and reasonable with their own country's best interests in mind(from their perspective), Fox on the other hand has no other purpose than to destroy the country and most of the entertainers on the network are barking-at-the-moon crazy. There is no possible positive outcome from dealing with them.
Chavez is much less of a threat to the nation than Fox.

Actually, as a husband and father, I can understand why he would not want to have anything at all to do with FOX News or any of it's afilliates. During the primaries they repeated insulted his family. Dissed his wife by calling her Obama's baby Momma, and tried to protray her as an unintelligent angry black woman.

So Yea I would say that him not talking to them is a good thing since if it was me I know I would not be able to play nice if I was in a room with someone that did such a thing to my family on national TV all in the name of ratings. I'd be thinking more along the lines of wanting to punch some people in the face. Not just Bill O and Beck, but the entire on air staff of Fox.

Yep, him not talking to them is a good thing... Could you just Imagine the headlines if he gave out a 'Presidential Beat Down' on National TV!!! GOD!!! While I'd pay money to see it... it really wouldn't do much to help our national discourse.

Now THAT'S the truth! When did this country think it was a bitchin' idea to be loved by gawd-awful, brutal dictators, yet not face any form of questioning of questionable behavior??
Glenn Beck has already made this a better country than the Obama administration! "Who was in cahoots with whom" versus "who exposed whom"!
