New York Times:

Job seekers now outnumber openings six to one, the worst ratio since the government began tracking open positions in 2000. According to the Labor Department's latest numbers, from July, only 2.4 million full-time permanent jobs were open, with 14.5 million people officially unemployed.

Here are the FACTS:

(A) Bush cut taxes.
(B) Then the economy collapsed.

It is a foregone conclusion that reckless tax-cutting is NOT good for the economy.

Janehenry. Yes, virtually all economists that the controlled communication outlets allow a voice screamed for and still call fro even more bailouts of those who do not need to be given, nor deserve a dime. But that is what happened and is happening. Now after obligating trillions of dollars of American taxpayer's wealth to pay off bad investments and bad loans of foreign and American investors and the banking criminal leadership of deep pockets while leaving the rest of innocent Americans to be trashed of a future: We are suffering with a system of decision making that is leading our nation towards dictatorship and ruin. We are bankrupt and behave as if we are the top of the international heap.
I have the equivalent of a degree in economics from top universities. However, it is false to assume that you must have a degree in anything to understand what is happening around you and to make conclusions and judgements based upon the best information available.

Ralph Nader have been talking about this for years and no one listened, they said he was crazy. I know he's laughing at us right now. There is a fundamental problem in this country and it's greed. It will ruin this country as it did Rome. There is no way that a CEO salary should be over 400% higher than his average worker. That is insane and gluttonous and this is the reason that the average worker wages and salary have not gone up in years. The wealth in this country is not being distributed evenly with the average worker but the debt in this country is distributed evenly.

I'm not hating on rich people, but, some people seem to think that wealthy people should not pay higher taxes -- nonsense. Absolutely, they should, because only because of the American people's strong commitment to the economy why they can even make so much money. They wouldn't make the money they do in another country. They should always be willing to give back to the United States. You can't take it with you when you leave this life so keep it real.

In 1994 Newt Gingrich told Americans to “vote Republican for a change”. Well, Americans responded and voted Republican for the next 12 years. Newt didn’t guarantee that Americans would enjoy that change. Oh, the last time Republicans had control of Congress for 12 years was from 1921 to 1933 and we all know how that turned out.

All the good American jobs are gone overseas to India, China, Mexico, Phillipines, etc. We're left with the low wage jobs even though our cost of living is much higher. Quality of life for Americans look bleak for the near future. This will not change until Americans come to their senses and realize that our problem is no longer about the races, it's about the Have and Have nots. If you consider yourself middle class - upper or lower middle or lower class - upper or lower lower, then consider yourself in the bullseye of the crises.

The wealthy in this country are driving the debate about everything and regular people keep taking ques from them, like they really care. People, stop being penny smart and pound foolish, these rich people don't have to buy healtcare, they can afford to pay cash for their medical treatments. When will you all get it? when it's too late and you find yourself in the bread line. Don't think it can't happen to you or you can be sadly mistaken because life has a way of throwing a curve ball.

Our corporate masters LOVE these numbers. They are in the driving seat. You want a job?
How cheap are you willing to work for?
How many overtime hours are you willing to work. (off the clock, of course)
Benefits? You don't get no stinkin' benefits!
Thinking of trying to form a Union to have some rights? YOU'RE FIRED!
Serfdom is your lot now, former middle class American.
You have to accept the notion of "being competitive in the global economy".
Translation: You work for China wages now. (If your lucky. Remember, the factories are over there now).

Perhaps you should grab yourself some poster board, make yourself a sign railing against "soshalizm" and hit a teabaggin' rally.

Now get out there and tell everyone you see how Michael Moore is telling more lies in his new movie and that we just need to cut the capital gains taxes to make the economy "ROAR".

What is never brought up at discussions about healthcare reform is that while the republicans are constantly trying to convince people that universal healthcare in other countries doesn't work, it is one of the major reasons why U.S. companies prefer to create jobs overseas -they don't have to think about paying the healthcare costs for workers in those countries.

And big business also displaces the high tech American worker by bringing in legal immigrants with similar skills via work visas to work here on our soil under "contract' labor for less $ with the added bonus that they can avoid providing the same benefits to the legal immigrant worker.

During an interview with Dick Cheney, CNN host John King asked the former vice president why “we should listen to you” for economic advice. To make his case, King noted the following statistical changes that occurred under the Bush/Cheney administration:

Unemployment rate: Rose from 4.2 percent to 7.6 percent
Poverty: Jumped from 32.9 million individuals to 37.3 million
Uninsured: Escalated from 41.2 million individuals to 45.7 million
Budget deficit: Inherited budget surplus of $128 billion and left office with $1.3 trillion deficit

This is the mess, Bush left Obama to deal with. Just how long do you think for this country to recover from a mess like this.? Elighten us trolls.

They blame Obama because they have nothing else; they can't face the truth that their inarticulate ex president Bush aka Alfred E. Neuman was the who actually expanded the gov't and pretty much torpedoed our economy leaving thousands upon thousands without jobs, and in many cases losing all or part of their pensions. Like the character in the Mad Magazine; they will do i.di0tic things like protest government intrusion into our lives even though many are on medicare or medicaid or some type of gov't assistance...yet they don't see the connection. See what we're up against? How do you fig.h.t such i.di0c.y? I truly believe that they are decedents of the Neanderthals who hid in caves when the far intellectually superior Cro-Magnums came into the scene. The knuckle draggers went off to hide in caves in what is now known as the deep red south and somehow to this day haven't evolved one bit.

SHARE THE WEALTH!!! What does that mean in America? I am unemployed, are you? What does the degree or degrees, professional licenses, computer certifications, and professional apprenticeships mean when there is no DOMESTIC employment market! America's private and public sectors took care of everyone but mainstream America. Effective marketing campaigns that disguise corporate downsizing and outsourcing as FREE MARKET CAPITALISM are effective economic smoke screens! TOO MANY AMERICANS ARE UNEMPLOYED!!!

I'm glad to see article being written about the job situation. Other than healthcare, I don't feel that theirs anything that is more important. There are a lot of absolutely great workers in pain and itjust doesn't seems things are getting better. These statistics need to be top priority to fix and I see no strategy being paid out or any metrics showing any changes.

I agree-- but I actually put jobs and healthcare on equal footing. Without jobs our stress levels will increase to make us really sick. For many-- particularly those without insurance that will be catastrophic. But for anyone -- the options are scary. Going to work and feeling productive is theraputic. A jobless recovery is unacceptable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_ASBQFJrSk
