And I ask the question: Why aren't law biding American Muslims or the ones who attended his mosque speaking out against this man? If you see something say something. Keeping quiet makes you just as guilty.

"and we are not saved..."

They knew the donut guy was trouble when "death to America sprinkles" appeared between the chocolate and maple-glazed donuts.

You lose one donut seller, to a jihadi training camp of all places, and I bet another one just stepped right up to replace them.

His possible plea of mitigation: that there were fewer furry arteries in NYC after he went off to his explosive blond course isn't going to fly.

As a liberal, I try to judge each individual for their character. However, after reading most of the Koran, I just don't think we should be permitting individuals who are devout Muslims, or Muslims from countries where there are large groups of terrorists which we are fighting, to come to the United States.

Until we have something like a Geiger counter, which can identify people, as someone who wants freedom and loves our freedoms and can PUT THIS COUNTRY, ITS' LAWS, AND ITS' TRADITIONS FIRST AND FOREMOST, and not someone who secretly just wants to hurt us, then I would prefer that we shut off immigration from these countries, and if we catch any whiff that they are involved in this and can demonstrate it, then they and their families should be repatriated, after being permitted to resolve their affairs and be compensated for property and things here.

You have people born and raised in America who don't meet your criteria. Are you going to expel them as well? Does killing an abortion doctor put the country's laws first? Does killing three policemen because people on the radio told you the President was going to take your guns show a love of America's traditions? Does calling the President every vile name in the book and making a record number of death threats against him and his family show respect for the country? America has more citizens in this country who are a threat to American ideals than you would ever have to worry about emigrating here, How are we going to fix that?

At some level I agree, that when someone immigrates they should have respect for and integrate into the society of their host country. Yet a person is always the product of their native land. I live in a country which, until this month, has been controlled by a communist government. I have to put its laws first, because I have a fear of jail. I respect it traditions, but do not put them first.

One thing it has done for me is make me aware of what I like about the U.S. and what I don't like about it.

Most, a vast majority, of immigrants are in a new country because they want to be. Few have any malice to their host country. Those that do, should be repatriated without hesitation. Otherwise I think immigration is normally good for any nation.

I guess President Obama is doing a pretty good job of keeping the country safe by catching terrorists such as the donut man. Or since this country no longer fights terrorism but now fights terror, is the proper adjective for describing the donut man a terrorizer rather than a terrorist?

This is a perfect example of how many HuffPo commentators are just looking for easy jokes or quippy asides... I remember when the level of commentary here was actually substantive and didn't seem redolent of AOL LCD's.

Is this really how the New York Times wants to tell a story? To essentially argue that we should question every taxi driver, deli salesman, or day laborer from the middle east? That yes, even someone with a "God Bless America" bumper sticker could want to bomb trains? This is a dangerous, xenophobic, irresponsible way to frame this story; every Timothy McVeigh, Unibomber, and mass killing spree gunman had a similary "harmless," American profile before they went mad. Every other American who has been charged with mass killing was just as much "the guy next door" as this guy was... the fact that his father drove a cab in Queens or the fact that he cared about people wanted their coffee does no more to absolve him than it does every white guy accused of committing the same crime. The lesson to be learned here is that ANYONE can desire mass killing, regardless of their ethnicity, and they can simply select their nearest justification for doing so. It's irresponsible to have us all instantly doubting and second-guessing everyone from a middle-eastern background in some sort of new grand atmosphere of suspicion.

perhaps making fun of poor grammar and poor headline construction is a true american's way of decrying the lack of communication skill in a large segment of our population.
'the donut man' describes a man made of donuts. much like 'the grumpy man' describes a man who complains. grumpy and donut being adjectives describing man.
lack of clear communication is at the heart of many of america's current problems. television hosts roil the proletariat by using half-truths, downright lies, hints, and very big words they know their audience members cannot understand. they count on the fact that their audience feels aggrieved by their lack of comprehension and they send their followers into the streets to protest the 'elite' who use language well, knowing full well that their audiences then look foolish and laughing at how easy it is to make money by making people make fools of themselves.
poor grammar and poor language skill invites humor. always did, always will. perhaps instead of complaining that huffington post readers are too well educated to overlook an egregious misuse of language, you should feel empowered that you are part of this well-educated group and you should direct your dislike of quips towards those who wrote the poorly constructed description of the would-be terrorist. describing the man as a 'donut man' rather than as the 'donut seller' might be common press shorthand, but that does not make it correct or unhumorous.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I am from Nepal and a very recent convert. Looking at how scientific, logical, and practical Flying Spaghetti Monsterism is, I could not but be impressed by it. But that is not why I converted. When I saw the Image of His Noodliness, I believe he communicated to me by some extrasensory means, and I had this unjustifiable urge to read the FSM Holy Gospel, and thus I became Enlightened.
Again, I am very thankful to His Noodliness for enlightening me and treating my cousin from Terminal stage of Cancer, giving eyesight to my Grandmother, and Apu's dohnuts…
Sincerely,
Nepali Believer

Pro-Filing.

But what of the tens of thousands like him that cannot be checked?
We tend not to scrutinize until it is well after the fact.
Time to tighten up our laughable immigration and visa policies forthwith.
Or it'll be the 'donut guy', 'the gold guy', 'the newspaper guy' or some 'guy'. innocuous as can be, that does the deed.

I would truly like to know and understand that when this country has been "technically" at war with Iraq and Afghanistan for a number of years, why is the INS letting people into this country from countries who are basically at war with us?

I think the INS had better wake up and stop letting people into this country who we are at war with..

Young, little education and not very bright (easily-manipulated), dismal prospects, and a load of money troubles. Throw in a big dose of religion, self-righteousness and a "holy mission" that will make him "somebody." Sounds like a pretty good formula.
